Isabel stood on the edge of the rocky shore, not far behind, her eyes narrowing as she watched Emmy and the other figure disappear into the distance.
She still couldn’t believe it. The old Emmy used to be so fragile, always avoiding anything remotely athletic, let alone extreme sports. And now, she had survived a cliff dive from that insane height, even after Isabel’s sudden scream startled her and almost sent her crashing into the water out of control. Emmy had come out of it without a scratch.
Why is this woman’s luck so ridiculous?
A cold shadow flashed through Isabel’s gaze. She needed to think fast and figure out a way to get Emmy to forgive her. There wasn’t much time. If Emmy stayed mad, Isabel would never be able to explain herself to Tyler.
As she was wrestling with her next move, two security guards in black uniforms approached, their faces set and unreadable.
“Ms. Summer. Because your actions endangered another guest’s life, the resort has decided to ask you to leave the island immediately.”
Isabel’s heart dropped. She lifted her head, voice sharp and incredulous. “What? Leave the island? Are you serious?”
“It was just a shout. I was worried about her. What gives you the right to throw me out? I am the Nelson family’s matriarch.”
The guards barely blinked, blocking her path with practiced calm.
“It doesn’t matter if it was on purpose or not. Your shout nearly caused Mr. Lincoln to have a serious accident during the dive.” One guard looked her in the eye. “This is coming straight from the management. It’s about guest safety.”
“The resort does not welcome you. Please pack your things and leave now. If you refuse, we’ll have no choice but to escort you.”
Isabel’s whole body shook with anger, her nails digging painfully into her palms.
“You…”
She had wasted two days scheming to bump into Emmy outside the hotel, trying to find a good moment to say sorry and make peace. But the chance slipped away as soon as she saw Emmy standing on the edge of the cliffs, ready to dive. That reckless, jealous impulse had flared up, and she had shouted on purpose.
Who would have guessed that not only did Emmy survive, but Isabel’s plan would backfire completely?
Her apology blew up in her face, and now she was being kicked off the island. There was no way she could explain this mess to Tyler.
…
An hour later, in the lounge of a sleek white yacht speeding away from the island, the frustration hung heavy in the air.
Tyler sat stiffly on a leather sofa, his expression dark and cold. Only an hour earlier, he had been making small talk with an important politician from the States, working to network and pull some strings. Suddenly, without warning, security had shown up and dragged him out in front of everyone.
Once he found out what happened, he realized Isabel had messed things up again.
