Vespera took a deep breath. Dominic wanted to come too? It felt like a swarm of ants was crawling under her skin.
Nevertheless, years of practice allowed her to keep her expression calm. She acted surprised for a moment before saying, "Mr. Reid, there's really no need for you to go personally. It's just a small issue. Calvert and I can handle it just fine. There's no need to make it a whole event."
Dominic gave her an unreadable smile and said, "No matter how small the issue, it should be taken seriously."
Vespera's face twitched slightly. Before she could come up with a response, Dominic had already slung an arm around her and cradled Snowball in the other, pulling her back indoors.
Vespera's mind was spinning. What should she do now? Should she just confess to Dominic? Why was she even thinking of it as confessing? It wasn't like she had done anything wrong. She just didn't want to make things more complicated than they already were.
If Dominic figured out that Vespera was the one Fawn had been searching for, he would probably be overjoyed. He might even drag her back to the Reid residence tomorrow.
A coincidence at the ball, another one at the mall today… It would look completely orchestrated!
Dominic set Snowball in its bed, then grabbed the car keys and left the apartment with Vespera.
In the elevator, Vespera was practically sweating bullets. Suddenly, she clutched her stomach and let out a gasp.
"What's wrong?" Dominic asked, catching Vespera. His eyes dropped to her hands. "Do you have a stomachache?"
"Yeah," answered Vespera with a nod. "It hit me out of nowhere. You should go ahead, Mr. Reid. I really need to use the bathroom."
Dominic pressed the button for the 13th floor and said, "It's fine. You matter more."
He wrapped an arm around Vespera's waist, letting her rest on him. Then, he rested his palm on her abdomen. He asked, "What did you eat?"
Vespera forced a laugh and replied, "Barbecue."
She noticed that his phone never rang, which meant that Natasha hadn't texted him. Then, she remembered that Rebecca's house was 15 minutes nearer to the mall.
