Vespera was shocked. Dominic's parents wanted to meet her?
Dominic had said it so casually, but to Vespera, it hit her like a hurricane. That was just how she was. When panic reached a certain point, she wouldn't freak out. She would appear calm and unmoved.
"Vera?" Dominic called out, patting her cheek.
Vespera looked like her soul had temporarily left her body. She snapped back to her senses and stammered., "I'm not mentally prepared for that yet."
Besides, Fawn was already setting Dominic up with some other woman from a wealthy family. If they were asking Vespera over now, it wasn't just to get to know her.
Vespera could already picture Fawn pulling her aside for a polite little chat and telling her that she should do what was best for everyone.
Vespera didn't want to go. She was just exhausted thinking about the same scene happening again.
Dominic noticed her frown. She didn't seem to like it. He asked, "You heard that my mom is looking for a woman, and it's bothering you, isn't it? I won't deny she has her own ideas about this, but she's looking for someone she won't find."
Vespera mumbled, "I'm just not ready."
Vespera didn't want to go. She didn't want to experience that situation again.
Dominic could sense Vespera's retreat. The reluctance in her eyes was enough to sting.
"We won't go then. We'll think about it next time. Take your time. I said I would wait, and I meant it," comforted Dominic.
"Alright. I'll think about it," replied Vespera, letting out the breath she had been holding in. The weight pressing down on her chest eased.
Dominic ran a hand through her hair and said, "Don't worry about it. There's no need to rush. We have lots of time."
Vespera didn't answer.
