Dominic's warm, damp lips traced a path from Vespera's waist to her ear. His strength was overwhelming. He was acting like a man possessed. It was as if he were a starving wolf that hadn't eaten in days.
No matter how loudly she shouted for him to stop, he didn't listen. His hands roamed over her body, and he was practically tearing her dress off her shoulders.
"Dominic, snap out of it!" Vespera shouted.
This wasn't normal. It was way beyond normal. Dominic had always been a man of immense self-control. Even if he had urges, he never acted like he had lost all sense of reason. It was as if he were under a spell.
Vespera tried to stop Dominic, but nothing worked. As though he wasn't satisfied, he flipped her over.
Her gown, which was already revealing, barely hung on her body now. He stared at her like she was some kind of dessert, waiting to be devoured.
"I swear, if you don't stop, I'm going to hurt you!"Vespera shouted, scratching Dominic hard.
However, it only made things worse. His breathing grew heavier, and his eyes darkened. Instead of backing off, he tightened his grip on her wrists and smothered her with another wave of kisses.
Vespera was speechless. Was this Dominic's idea of romance?
Vespera struggled, trying to free herself, but Dominic wouldn't let go. Just when she thought she was going to lose the fight, he suddenly stopped. He seemed to have sobered up.
He grabbed his jacket off the floor and draped it over her chest, covering the mess he had just made of her clothes. Then, he climbed off her and backed away.
He leaned back on the couch with his head up and eyes squeezed shut, trying to steady his breathing. The veins bulged along his forehead, neck, and the back of his hands as he forced himself to calm down. He tried hard to fight for control.
Vespera put on the jacket properly and retreated to the far end of the room. Dominic's whole presence screamed danger. It was as if he would devour her on instinct if she got too close.
Her steps were shaky as she kept her distance. Glancing at him warily, she asked, "Are you alright? Can you…"
Her words trailed off when her gaze dropped to his lap. His zipper looked like it was on the verge of exploding.
Vespera narrowed her eyes and gulped, terrified. She continued, "Can you control yourself?"
She stared for a whole minute, then her eyes met Dominic's. He was looking at her with a complicated gaze. Their gazes locked for a while.
Blinking her eyes awkwardly, she screamed inwardly, "Damn it! Why did I stare?"
Dominic crossed one leg over the other to hide the problem and said, "I'll do my best."
Dominic looked all composed and dignified now, but Vespera couldn't forget the wild beast from a few moments ago. She didn't dare to sit next to him again.
Walking over to a chair by the wall, Vespera wanted to sit down when she noticed the painting hanging on the wall. In the painting, the woman had creepy eyes and what looked like a knowing smile. She was staring right at Vespera.
Vespera immediately looked away and dragged the chair to the center of the room, sitting there instead.
Then, Vespera abruptly got up and headed toward the window. Dominic got up and pulled her. He asked, "What are you doing?"
Vespera replied, "I'm opening the window! There's something in the air here."
Dominic asked, "If someone actually went through the trouble, do you think they would leave the window unlocked?"
Vespera said, "Can't I at least try? We won't know unless we try!"
Vespera was visibly upset. Dominic reached out to calm her. He said, "Alright. Don't get worked up."
Vespera shouted, "I'm not worked up! Why would I be upset?"
Then, Vespera kicked Dominic. A while of silence later, she froze, like she had just snapped out of a dream. Why did she kick him?
Dominic winced, his expression distorted from the pain. He gently said, "It's alright. Just breathe. Don't let your emotions get the better of you."
Vespera followed his advice. Looking into his calm and gentle gaze, she felt her nerves slowly start to settle.
Dominic then said, "Stay here and don't move. I'll give it a try."
Dominic didn't want Vespera getting close to the window again. She clearly wasn't in the best state of mind, and if she set her mind on something, she would do it.
