"So, do you need help?" Dominic asked again, using his gaze to seduce Vespera.
Vespera licked her lips as they felt dry and said, "I'll think about it."
She thought, "Stop tempting me already."
Vespera's lips shimmered faintly with moisture. It was just enough to make something inside Dominic snap.
Neither of them could say who moved first. Maybe he pushed the door open, and maybe she pulled, but the narrow gap widened slowly until there was room for him to step inside.
With a bang, the door clicked shut behind them. In the next moment, Vespera's back hit the door. Dominic's body pressed flush against hers, stealing all the space and air between them. His breath was hot against her neck as he asked, "Have you made up your mind now?"
Vespera tried to hold on to reason, but her body betrayed her. All Dominic did was lean in, but she felt numb from the inside out. Every breath he took stirred something in her, making her want more.
Putting everything aside, people should enjoy themselves while they could. Vespera whispered, "Lock the door."
The lock snapped into place with a click. A second later, their lips collided like they had been starving. It was wild and messy. Vespera's instincts kicked in, and the urge to bite rose out of nowhere. She broke away just enough to sink her teeth into the side of Dominic's neck.
"Vera, be gentle," mumbled Dominic. He was used to Vespera biting him. She only bit when she got really into it.
But Vespera didn't stop there. This time, she nipped at his chest through his shirt. She muttered, "I just want to bite you."
Dominic's hands roamed across Vespera's back firmly. He hissed softly from the sting and said hoarsely, "If you bite me to death, who's going to keep you satisfied after?"
Vespera unbuttoned his shirt while meeting his gaze as she said, "You aren't human. You won't die."
Dominic paused, then gently cupped her chin and tilted her face toward his. He said, "Will you let me stay by your side forever then?"
There was something fragile in the question. A hope buried deep, flickering like the flame of a candle that had once gone out.
Vespera didn't answer. She just stood on tiptoe and kissed him again.
