Selena sat quietly for a moment before asking, "How are the two tasks I gave you progressing?"
Her assistant answered, "Everything has been arranged on Ms. Sowle's end. Also, Mrs. Dawson followed your instructions and extended invitations to both Mrs. Munoz and Mrs. Reid. They've confirmed they'll be attending the ball on Friday."
Selena nodded, satisfied. She leaned against the armrest, fingers resting lightly on her temple. "Maya, this game has just begun. Don't be in such a rush to strike. We need to be patient and chip away at them bit by bit, let their mindset unravel. That's when the real fun starts."
Her assistant, Maya Delaney, smiled and responded, "Understood, Mrs. Locke."

Upstairs, Vespera carefully set aside the gifts brought by Luke and Theodore. She didn't ask a single question about Theodore. Both Wanda and Vernon were afraid that she would ask.
"I'm heading to work," said Vespera, anxious to avoid any mention of Dominic. She grabbed her bag and slipped out the door quickly.
"Drive safe," Wanda called after Vespera.
After Vespera closed the door, she felt relieved. Wanda and Vernon, who were inside the apartment, let out a sigh of relief, too.
Vespera walked through the community when a silver SUV slowly passed her. She didn't recognize the vehicle, but a chill crept down her spine. It felt like something evil had brushed right past her.
…
Since Vespera had already taken the day off, she figured it wouldn't matter if she arrived a bit late. On her way in, she stopped by a self-service car wash to clean her car before heading to the office.
She had just settled into her chair when the internal line rang.
"Come to my office," said a cold voice from the other end of the line.
