Vespera looked at his hand as she thought, "Wasn't that a bit over the top?"
As if he sensed her unspoken critique, Dominic kindly reminded her, "Mr. Munoz did this."
A hint of frustration showed in his slightly furrowed eyebrows.
Vespera said, "Then I... I'll take you to the osteopathy clinic, and John can apply some medicated oil. He's very skilled."
Dominic was at a loss for words. He sighed and held his hand out to her, "The person I got hurt for should take responsibility."
Vespera forced a smile, "I never said I wouldn't. I'm just not experienced. I thought a professional would be better..."
Under his intense stare, her voice dwindled, "Well, if you don't mind, I could give you a slight massage."
Dominic's eyes twinkled with amusement. "So, should we go to your place or mine?"
Vespera fell silent.
"Or…" He leaned in close, his lips brushing her ear as he murmured softly, "How about we head to your parents' place? Weren't you planning on visiting them?"
A tingling numbness spread through her ears.
"Um, let's just go upstairs," Vespera replied, sidestepping his flirtation. She unbuckled her seat belt and stepped out of the car.
Dominic walked around the vehicle, caught up with her as she limped, and scooped her up in his arms. "You're rushing. Are you trying out for the Paralympic Games?"
Vespera chose to stay silent.
In the elevator, Dominic was thoughtful enough to let her decide. "You pick the floor. Go wherever you want," he offered.
Vespera thought, "Stop pretending! It doesn't make a difference!"
She pressed the button for the 13th floor. Raymond was on the top floor, and if he had other intentions and if she couldn't resist them... Never mind. Since the outcome wouldn't change, it was better not to let it escalate further.
His tone was sincere, but his eyes and breath were like lures, tempting her to react.
Vespera avoided his gaze and retreated slightly. "If you want to get a hot pack, go ahead. Just stop with the flirting... I mean, chatting."
Dominic stopped teasing her and stepped outside.
Relieved, Vespera exhaled and thought, "He's like an incubus with the power to read minds and charm people."
He tried to seduce her every night... Who could resist someone so captivating? Even a scholar couldn't, so why should she be able to?"
Lying in bed, lost in thought, Vespera didn't know that outside Dominic had removed his jacket, rolled up his shirt sleeves, and entered the kitchen.
As Vespera was still caught up in thoughts of how the incubus might soon flaunt his sculpted abs to entice her, he returned and announced it was time for dinner...
Dinner?
