Vespera tried to pinch the flesh at Dominic's waist, but it didn't budge. Why was his body as hard as rock? Her own waist was on the verge of giving out before his did. And his hand was still gripping her side, making her legs feel like jelly.
Eventually, she gave up resisting and let him take control. Finally, the aggressive kiss began to fade.
"Now that I've tried it…" Dominic murmured hoarsely against her lips. His breathing was heavy, but he was reluctant to let her go. He lightly pecked her lips and said, "Now that I've had a taste, it's impossible to stop."
Vespera barely had time to process that before Dominic kissed her again, drawing her tongue into his mouth this time. The way he moved between fierce and gentle, dominant and coaxing, made her dizzy.
When she could finally breathe again, she was slumped in his arms, gasping for air. It felt like she had been dragged into the deep ocean, surrounded by beauty but starved of oxygen.
As she thought of the ocean, what came to mind was the little mermaid who turned into seafoam in the end. It was a beautiful yet tragic story about giving up everything and slowly walking into ruin.
Dominic wrapped his arms around Vespera in a much more relaxed posture, clearly in a better mood now. He gently stroked her back and asked apologetically, "Do you want to lie down in the lounge for a bit?"
Vespera snapped back to reality and responded, "My lunch break is already over!"
She shoved him away and wriggled out of his grasp like a fish before bolting out the door. Her speed was shocking.
Upon seeing that, Dominic was speechless. Since Vespera sprinted off too quickly and wobbly, she looked like someone who had just downed an entire bottle of wine. And those heels? They weren't built for running.
The inevitable happened, and her ankle gave out. She twisted it hard and stumbled. Wincing, she stopped in her tracks. Using the wall as support, she slowly dragged herself back toward her office.
See? The moment she saw the prince, everything started going downhill. A woman's heart must be sealed in concrete!
That afternoon, Vespera swapped her heels for flat shoes. At first, she was worried that she might not be able to walk, but after putting ice on her ankle, it was manageable. She planned to visit an osteopathy clinic after work for some treatment.
He felt bad for her. She needed to work and deal with Dominic's feelings. She had it way harder than him, but he didn't have the power to help her. Sometimes, he even had to play the accomplice, which made him feel guilty.
Vespera snapped back to her senses and answered, "I'm fine. I just twisted my ankle earlier, and it still hurts a little."
Gerard quickly said, "You twisted your ankle? What if it's a fracture? You should get it checked at a hospital!"
To that, Vespera responded, "I was planning to go after work."
"Go now. If Mr. Reid asks, I'll cover for you," said Gerard, full of loyalty.
Vespera was genuinely touched. "Gerard, you really are my comrade-in-arms!"
