Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 996

"There's just one thing—" the operative hesitates, his voice tightening. "We can't confirm which daughter she is yet."

Silas Blackwood fathered seven children—three boys, four girls. Genetic testing at birth revealed that all of them possessed terrifyingly high IQs, but the youngest daughter was in a league of her own. Her intellect shattered every measurable scale, surpassing even her genius parents by leaps and bounds. If she were still alive, there was no telling how formidable she had become.

"It doesn't matter which one she is. Any of them will serve my purpose," Corvus says lazily. "It's the perfect opportunity to test the results of my early research."

"Securing her might take time," the operative replies grimly. "She's currently married to Warren Sherwin, and she's pregnant. Warren watches her like a hawk; he doesn't let her out of his sight. It won't be easy for our people to get close."

"I care about results, not excuses." Corvus slams the coffee cup down on the table. A chilling, murderous aura spills from his eyes. "I only have one year left. I have to push forward."

The hard cutoff for the gene transplant procedure is fifty years old. He's ten months away from hitting that limit. He absolutely has to complete the Gene Modification Project before next year.

"If you don't bring her back within a month, don't bother coming back alive."

"Yes, sir!" The operative pales, bowing deeply before scrambling out of the room.

Corvus sits alone for a few minutes before taking the elevator down to the subterranean hold.

"Silas is awake. Are you happy?" Corvus asks softly, looking down at Theia.

Theia sits rigidly in her chair, staring blankly at her hands, completely ignoring him.

"How about I let you see him?" Accustomed to her stony silence, Corvus doesn't lose his temper.

At those words, the deadened look in the woman's eyes finally cracks. *He's letting me see Silas? Why would he suddenly play nice?*

"Let's go," Corvus says, taking a step back. The guards open the heavy iron door and shackle Theia's hands and feet. The restraints are high-tech and virtually impossible to pick.
