Last night.
Sitting by his bedside and looking at his pale face, she had done a lot of thinking.
During the three months he had been "gone," she had constantly tried to convince herself that Channing was no different from any of her other boy toys.
That she would get over him in a couple of days.
But the harder she tried to remind herself, the more her longing for him grew with each passing day.
Probably from the exact moment she decided to keep the baby, her feelings for him had evolved far beyond a simple "employer-employee" relationship.
And then Jude had poured his heart out to her.
She had already lost Ari; she didn't want to lose Channing too.
Once she accepted that, she felt like she could finally breathe freely.
Grabbing her phone, she texted Juniper.
[Juniper, Channing is the Governor of Caelus.]
When the text came through, Juniper was lounging on the sofa with a face mask on, scrolling through her phone.
The truth was finally out.
Juniper: [Wow, he hid that really well.]
Coralie: [Not only did he not leave, but he also stayed right by my side playing dress-up. Remember Odom? That was him in disguise.]
Juniper blinked. [Whoa, he's seriously dedicated.]
Coralie: [He also said he's been in love with me for over a decade. I was just a kid back then. Is he a total creep or what?]
Juniper patted her face mask. [Sounds pretty likely.]
Staring at Juniper's reply, Coralie paused: [Did you know about his identity this whole time?]
Juniper's hand slipped, yanking her face mask askew.
She gave up, peeled it off completely, tossed it into the trash, and sat cross-legged on the sofa to reply seriously: [If I say yes, are you going to disown me as your bestie?]
She followed the text with an animated sticker of a little rabbit begging on her knees.
Coralie frowned: [Why didn't you tell me earlier?]
Juniper: [You two were broken up back then. Didn't you say exes should be treated as if they're dead?]
Coralie: Well, there was no need to actually curse him to death!
He was the father of her child, after all.
Coralie quickly realized Juniper was likely worried their relationship wouldn't work out and wanted to spare her unnecessary drama.
