Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1994

Channing sat on the sofa with Coralie settled gently in his lap.

He had maneuvered them both with extreme caution, making absolutely sure no pressure was put on her stomach.

"Are you okay?"

Terrified he might pass out again, Coralie gazed at him with genuine concern in her striking eyes.

"I'm fine."

Channing wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder as he inhaled her fresh, intoxicating scent. "I'm just a little dizzy, my legs are a bit weak, and my heart is beating a little fast."

Coralie felt like that statement was only fifty percent true.

He was definitely still unwell, but surely not as bad as he was playing it up to be.

Channing was a sly fox, with more manipulative tricks up his sleeve than strands of hair on his head.

"Coralie, about the things in the drawer..."

"I have them," Coralie interrupted smoothly, her voice remarkably calm. "Jude told me everything."

"Everything?"

Channing swallowed hard, a flash of guilt crossing his eyes.

"Everything!"

Coralie lifted her gaze, locking eyes with him as her lips parted. "Channing, what makes me so special that you'd go to such lengths?"

"Everything about you." His Adam's apple bobbed, his voice turning raspy. "Coralie, I was actually planning to kill myself that day."

"What?" She was stunned; Jude hadn't mentioned that detail.

"If you hadn't appeared, I'd probably be dead right now."

Channing leaned closer, his eyes bloodshot, swirling with an agonizing depth of affection. "Aside from my grandfather, you're the only warmth I've ever felt in this world."

"You saved this life of mine, so I'm willing to do anything for you."

"Including paving the way for me and Ari?" Her throat went dry, her eyes stinging so badly she could barely keep them open.

What did it feel like to actively help the person you loved be with another man?

"You were happy with him." Channing didn't deny it, a faint, melancholic smile touching his lips. "As long as you were smiling, that was enough for me."

"Even if I told you right now that I still love Ari and not you, would it really not matter?" She stared at him intently.

"Do you not like me?" Channing gently squeezed her hand, his smile widening slightly as his tone grew certain. "Coralie, you do like me. Don't you?"

He wasn't forcing her.
