*Hiss—*
Perhaps her emotional swings were just too extreme, or maybe the little rascal had recognized its father's voice, but the baby started kicking even more vigorously than before.
"Are you alright?" Channing instantly grew tense, gently supporting her as he asked with deep concern. "Where does it hurt? Is it your stomach?"
"Don't panic, I'll take you straight to the hospital right now!"
"There's no need!"
Coralie shot him a vicious glare, her beautiful face icy, her tone sharply hostile. "I wouldn't dare trouble the great Governor Rhodes."
Channing pursed his lips. Seeing that she still had the energy to hurl sarcastic remarks at him, he figured it probably wasn't a stomachache.
The pregnancy guide he had read mentioned that babies start kicking around the five-month mark.
"I lied to you, and I am so deeply sorry." Channing gazed at her tenderly, employing infinite patience as he gently coaxed her. "The air in this parking garage is terrible. Whether you want to scream at me or kill me, let's just go home first, okay?"
Coralie glanced out the window. The air was thick with the suffocating stench of gasoline.
The smell was repulsive, making her feel incredibly nauseous.
Seeing her hesitate and stop fighting him, Channing immediately secured her seatbelt and quickly rounded the car to the driver's seat.
He started the sports car and steered it smoothly toward her private residence.
Throughout the entire drive, Coralie kept her eyes glued to the window, refusing to give him so much as a single glance.
Channing's heart was racing with anxiety, and he didn't dare say a word to provoke her.
After forty agonizingly silent minutes in the car, they arrived at her home.
The moment the car came to a complete stop, Coralie unbuckled her seatbelt and practically sprinted inside.
Terrified that Channing would follow her, she deliberately slammed the front door shut.
The very next second.
The door swung open again, and Channing materialized right in front of her.
"How the hell did you get in?" Coralie, who was in the middle of changing her shoes, was startled by his sudden appearance.
"You never deleted my fingerprint from the lock." Channing walked forward, instinctively dropping to one knee. He gently grasped Coralie's ankle, resting it on his thigh as he began to help her change her shoes.
"Get out!" Coralie had a massive knot of anger trapped in her chest, and seeing that "smug" face of his only fueled the fire. She kicked out at him hard.
Channing didn't react at all, tenderly slipping her indoor slippers onto her feet.
