He looked so utterly pathetic, like an abandoned puppy.
It inexplicably made her heart melt.
"I just need to make a call." Coralie couldn't pull her hand free, so she just sighed and let him hold on. She reached for his phone on the nightstand and asked softly, "What's your passcode? Can you remember?"
"Your birthday," Channing coughed again, his voice barely a whisper.
Her birthday?
Coralie typed in the numbers, and the screen instantly unlocked.
Something seemed to squeeze tight around her heart, sending a sharp, unexpected pang through her.
Pushing the thought aside, she quickly dialed the number.
The doctor arrived shortly after.
"Ms. Quill, would you mind waiting outside while I examine Mr. Irving?"
The doctor offered an awkward smile, glancing down at their tightly clasped hands.
"I'd love to wait outside." Coralie looked exhausted. She shot a glare at Channing. "Hey, can you let go? I'm not leaving, okay?"
Why was a sick Channing acting like a completely different person?!
He was unbearably clingy.
Channing stared at her with puppy-dog eyes and shook his head.
The doctor glanced between the two of them and let out a dry chuckle. "Mr. Irving is running a high fever, so he's a bit delirious and feeling insecure."
"So what do we do?" Coralie asked.
"It's fine. Let him hold on. I'll just adjust my positioning to examine him." The doctor pulled out his instruments and got to work.
The examination finished.
Channing had a fever of a hundred and four degrees, accompanied by a bad cough.
It was clearly a severe chill.
"Did Mr. Irving come into contact with anything freezing cold yesterday?"
Coralie pursed her lips, too guilty to answer.
It was definitely from her sneak attack when she shoved snow down his jacket.
He looked so built and tough, yet a little bit of snow had completely taken him out...
"Just treat him."
Coralie quickly changed the subject, her voice tight.
"He needs an IV."
The doctor busied himself, hooking Channing up to an IV drip.
He then left strict instructions for the medication.
