Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1896

Her hair was finally dry.

Coralie had finished most of the cake and was leaning against Channing's chest, her eyes closed, looking like a lazy, contented kitten.

"The pork broth needs a bit more time. Do you want to take a nap?"

As Channing spoke, he suddenly let out a sharp *achoo!*.

"Don't worry about me. Go take a shower." Coralie, refusing to admit she was worried, shoved him away, pretending to be grossed out. "Go on, go on. You reek."

"Alright."

Channing let her push him up with ease. Before leaving, he turned on the TV and switched it to her favorite show.

The door clicked shut.

Only then did Coralie look away. She picked up her water and took a few sips.

Why did this cake taste so overwhelmingly rich today?!

——

After his shower.

The pork broth was ready. Channing poured a bowl, waited for it to cool to the perfect temperature, and brought it out to feed Coralie.

"Is it good?" Channing watched her reaction closely.

Since her stomach had been upset, she couldn't have anything too greasy.

So, while it was simmering, he meticulously skimmed all the excess fat off the top.

"It's good."

Coralie nodded. She drank half the bowl in one go and let Channing coax her into eating a few pieces of pork.

"You have some too."

"Mhm."

Channing nodded, then smoothly finished the remaining half of her bowl.

Coralie was speechless.

He must have been starving to eat whatever was left over.

And he wasn't grossed out by sharing it at all.

"Are you tired? Ready for bed?"

She had been working all day and then running around in the snow.

She had to be exhausted.

And she was.

Coralie felt like she had been fighting off sleep for the last two days. She simply couldn't keep her eyes open.

She felt like she could fall asleep the second she closed her eyes.

"Let's sleep. Goodnight."

Coralie stood up, swept her long hair back, and headed toward her bedroom.

Without permission, Channing didn't dare follow her.

He obediently went back to his own room.

As he slept.

He started to feel off. His body was burning up, breaking into a sweat.

Based on the medical knowledge he'd accumulated years ago, it was probably from catching a chill earlier today.
