"Are you actually capable or not?"
After staring at him in exasperated silence for a long moment, Alaric sat up straight and asked Channing with dead seriousness, "Tell me the truth. Why won't she agree to be with you?"
Logically speaking, his grandson was incredibly handsome and physically flawless.
Money wasn't even a question—he had an empire's worth of wealth.
And his career?
He was the Governor of Caelus. That was the ultimate trump card.
With credentials like that, women should be lining up around the block.
Could it be—
"Kid, don't scare your old man." Alaric grabbed Channing's arm, his eyes wide with urgency. "Are the rumors true? Are you impotent?"
Was that why the girl refused to be with him?
If that were the case, he could actually understand her hesitation.
"It's okay, we can fix this." Alaric started spiraling into his own imagination. "I heard there's a legendary healer named Dr. Nocturne. No matter how much it costs, I'll track her down and have her cure you."
Channing: "???"
Dr. Nocturne?
Juniper was Coralie's little sister! Asking her to cure his alleged impotence?
That was basically the equivalent of throwing his future wife away!
"Grandfather, stop working yourself up over nothing." Channing almost laughed out of sheer frustration. He looked him dead in the eye. "Your grandson works perfectly fine. There are absolutely zero issues in that department."
A fact Coralie could certainly vouch for.
"Then what's the problem?" Alaric demanded, getting more riled up. "I don't care what her family background is. As long as she's a kind-hearted girl, I won't stand in your way."
"As for your father, I'll handle him. If he dares to complain, I'll beat him half to death with my cane."
"Or..."
Alaric paused, suddenly leaning in to ask cautiously, "Is the person you're chasing... a man?"
Ahhhhh.
A man wasn't a dealbreaker, either.
He considered himself a very open-minded patriarch. He just needed a little time to adjust to the idea, that was all.
A man?
Channing let out a helpless laugh.
His grandfather had an incredibly wild imagination, and his theories were getting more ridiculous by the second.
If he let him keep talking, the old man would probably assume he was into cats and dogs next.
