Now that the Schwartz family was personally backing Ebony Fox...
What did they have to fear?!
"Understood, Ebony Fox."
The staff member nodded, speaking softly. "If there are any further questions, we'll reach out to you."
"Thank you for your hard work."
Watching Annie Ainsworth being taken away, Ebony Fox finally returned to her office to handle her own affairs.
——
At the police station.
Sitting in the interrogation room and looking at the room full of officers, Annie finally realized the massive scale of the trouble she had caused.
She curled up into herself, her voice trembling as she asked, "Is my family here?"
"They're here."
An officer glanced at her, eyes filled with blatant disgust. "They're still going through the procedures. Wait."
"Ugh..."
Annie's lip quivered, and she couldn't hold back her sobs.
"Now you know to be scared?" The officer scoffed. He had seen far too many crocodile tears.
People like her didn't cry out of remorse. They cried purely out of fear.
Not long after.
Mrs. Ainsworth rushed frantically into the interrogation room. Seeing her daughter handcuffed and looking utterly disheveled, she immediately burst into tears.
She had warned her not to go out. Why wouldn't she just listen?
"Mom, why is it just you? Where are Grandpa and Dad?"
Annie grabbed her mother's arm, asking desperately. "What's the use of just you being here?"
Her mother was nothing more than a housewife. She didn't even have a real say in their own home.
"They..."
At the mention of this, Mrs. Ainsworth's tears fell even harder. "Your grandfather and father said... they won't get involved in this."
Getting involved meant offending the Schwartz family. That was a price they simply couldn't afford.
"Then what do I do?!"
Annie had a total meltdown, screaming at the top of her lungs, "To curry favor with the Schwartz family, they're willing to just abandon their own daughter?!"
