"My son is incredibly stubborn. If he wants to declare war on me, he won't go begging others for help." Monique took a graceful sip of her tea.
Whenever Shanley was brought up, however, Monique's face would inevitably crease with worry. "Kurt is easy enough to handle. The real problem is Ebony Fox..."
"Ma'am, are you afraid of her?"
Word around the house was that Ebony Fox used to be special ops. The woman was terrifyingly capable.
"Afraid of her?" Monique scoffed coldly. "What I'm afraid of is her sister, Juniper."
Maid: "?"
Monique: "Think about it. She managed to tame Shanley, who's basically the devil himself, into a doting husband. Her methods are clearly unmatched."
"If I cross her sister, who knows what Juniper will do to destroy me."
Therefore.
Unless absolutely necessary, she would avoid any direct confrontation with Ebony Fox.
—
On the other side of the city.
The sky seemed to have cracked open. The torrential rain showed no signs of stopping, blanketing the entire city in a hazy, oppressive mist.
Ebony Fox sat out on the balcony for hours, constantly checking her phone.
It was now 3 AM.
Kurt had been gone for five hours.
He said he'd come back, but looking at the time, it didn't seem likely.
A bitter smile tugged at the corners of Ebony Fox's lips.
She had no idea how his conversation with his mother had played out.
Picking up her phone, she was just about to head to bed when the front door suddenly clicked open.
Drenched to the bone, Kurt stood in the dim light of the entryway.
Water dripped relentlessly from his short hair, his face deathly pale.
"You..." Ebony Fox froze, her eyes widening in shock.
"Let me get cleaned up first." Kurt bolted for the bathroom, grabbing a towel to scrub the rainwater off his body.
Snapping out of her daze, Ebony Fox followed him.
Standing in the doorway, she scanned him from head to toe. "What happened to you?"
