"I'm sorry."
Seeing that she didn't like it, Kurt looked visibly deflated. "I'll get you something you actually like next time."
He really didn't know what Ebony Fox liked; he was just figuring things out as he went.
"I'll take the flowers out right now."
"No need."
Ebony Fox plucked a single rose, twirling it between her fingers. She looked up at him, the corners of her lips pulling into a faint smile. "Have someone bring them into the gym. Find a few vases for them."
Kurt hesitated. "I thought you didn't like them?"
"I don't completely hate them either." Ebony Fox shot him a look before averting her eyes, her expression turning slightly awkward. "Just get someone to move them. I'm going back to work."
"Huh?"
Watching her walk away, Kurt stood stunned for a few seconds before a brilliant smile broke across his face.
Even though she claimed she didn't like them, she still kept them.
Sharp tongue, soft heart.
"Okay!"
Kurt called out to her retreating back. "I'll find the prettiest vases and put them right where everyone can see!"
Ebony Fox's spine stiffened, and her slightly quickened pace betrayed her inner fluster.
To be honest.
This was the first time she had ever received a gift from a man, let alone red roses.
Even if she wasn't particularly fond of the grand gesture, it was still his first gift to her.
She was actually quite touched.
...
Meanwhile.
From a car parked not too far away, Annie had watched the entire interaction unfold.
If she had only been suspicious before, now she was absolutely certain.
The woman Kurt was in love with was her.
Thinking about this.
Annie clenched her fists, feeling utterly humiliated.
She pulled out her phone and contacted a private investigator.
"I want a full background check on her. I need the file in half an hour."
Sure enough.
Having money made things easy.
Within twenty minutes, Annie received the report.
