Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1349

"I'm just afraid they won't be able to handle it."

"It'll be fine," Jimmie said, his lips curling into a reassuring smile. "I've already given them a heads-up."

"?"

While Luella was still trying to process that, the bedroom door suddenly opened.

"!!!"

Terrified, Luella buried her face in Jimmie's chest, her hands clenching his shirt as her body trembled slightly.

"Jimmie, why haven't you—"

Theia pushed the door open, the words dying in her throat as the scene before her nearly made her pass out.

"A-Are you two..."

Theia blinked, certain her eyes were playing tricks on her.

She was looking at her son holding a boy in his bed.

And those clothes in the living room... they clearly belonged to two different people.

"Honey, what's wrong?" Silas's deep voice echoed from behind her. "Is Jimmie not here?"

The moment he stepped into the doorway, he froze mid-sentence.

"Mom, Dad!"

Jimmie, still holding Luella, calmly greeted them. "Have a seat in the living room. We'll be right out."

"Alright."

Silas managed a raspy response. He gently took his shell-shocked wife by the arm and guided her back into the hallway, thoughtfully pulling the door shut behind them.

Theia collapsed onto the living room sofa, staring blankly at her husband. Her voice shook. "Silas, I wasn't seeing things, was I? The person Jimmie was holding... was a boy?"

"It certainly looked like it."

Silas poured his wife a glass of water, letting out a long, heavy sigh. "It's the 21st century. It's not exactly unheard of."

"Haven't we always been worried that Jimmie would never find anyone and end up lonely?" Silas managed a strained smile, trying to comfort his wife. "Now he has someone. The gender just happens to be a little different than we expected. As long as he's happy, we shouldn't be so fixated on it."

"I know all of that logically, it's just..."

This was absolute chaos.

"Mom, Dad. Let me formally introduce you. This is Luella, my girlfriend."

Jimmie gripped Luella's hand tightly, emphasizing every single word. "And your future daughter-in-law."

G-Girlfriend?

Since when did the word girlfriend cross gender lines?

They weren't exactly completely out of touch. They understood how same-sex relationships worked.

Theia was too stunned to even form words.

Fortunately, Silas still had a grip on his sanity. "Come sit down," he croaked.

"Don't be nervous. It's not like this is your first time meeting my parents."

Jimmie led Luella over to the sofa, sitting directly across from Silas and Theia.

Luella kept her eyes glued to the floor, her posture perfectly rigid.

It had only been two minutes, but the tension was so thick she was practically digging a hole through the floorboards with her toes.
