Grandma Julia shot her husband a look.
“Since when do you get a say in this?”
“She could just cut you off, you know. You think she cares? Please.”
“I heard it straight from Tatum. He said Wiona is seriously impressive.”
“Do you even know who she is?”
“She’s that genius artist who blew up online a while ago. What was it… something with a W?”
“I haven’t even had time to look her up yet.”
“Tatum said she’s also an incredible designer. She spent nine million at an auction just to win back the pendant Luna left behind.”
“Would a regular girl drop that much on a pendant? She’s not just thoughtful, she’s got real talent.”
“She doesn’t need us, the Blue family. She’d do just fine on her own.”
“Honestly, if Luna hadn’t gotten swept up in love back then, she probably would’ve ended up just like this.”
“All that talent, Wiona’s got it too.”
“So what if she doesn’t look like Luna? She still has our daughter’s blood. That’s enough for me.”
“I’m telling you now, Luna’s daughter is my precious girl. If you do anything to scare her off, I’ll never let you hear the end of it.”
By the time Grandma Julia finished, she was so fired up Grandpa Stephen didn’t even try to argue.
Right then, Dawson ran in all out of breath.
“Grandpa, Grandma, Wiona’s here!”
As Wiona stepped over the threshold and into the living room, the Blue family elders finally got a good look at her.
She wore a soft beige dress, her long hair pulled back into a neat bun. She looked calm, graceful, almost regal.
Her features weren’t much like Luna’s, but as she walked closer, something about her—the way she held herself, her expressions, her every little movement—drew all eyes to her.
The old couple instinctively reached for each other’s hands.
Grandpa Stephen actually jumped to his feet. He and Grandma Julia, both trembling, hurried straight for the door.
“Luna…”
“Luna, my girl!”
Before Wiona could react, the two of them rushed over and wrapped her in a tight hug.
“Luna…”
“Mom missed you so much.”
“Where have you been all this time?”
“I never believed you were really gone…”
“Luna, Luna!”
Grandma Julia’s tears wouldn’t stop. She sobbed so hard she nearly collapsed.
Sure, finding their granddaughter should be a joy.
But if Wiona looked like that man, would their grandparents be able to accept her?
They couldn’t risk ruining everything.
Dawson was the first to whisper to his father, Zachary.
“Dad, why did Grandpa and Grandma think Wiona was Aunt Luna?”
“Do they really look alike?”
“Is it just me?”
Zachary gave his youngest son a sad look.
“They do, in a way. Not the face. It’s the way she moves, the way she looks at you… it’s just like Luna.”
“When I saw Wiona walk in just now, for a second, I thought I was seeing things.”
“I almost believed your aunt had come back.”
Was it really that uncanny?
Mateo and his brothers stared at Wiona, curiosity written all over their faces.
They couldn’t help wondering, what kind of person had their aunt been?
Surely Mateo and Tyler would remember Luna, at least a little.
