Jasmine wiped the last tear from her cheek, managing a shaky smile. “Alright, alright. You are right. I was just being an overanxious mom.”
She took a deep breath, her mood lifting. “Honestly, I’ve gained so much today. At least I know Wiona still has feelings. She’s not made of stone. I knew our mother-daughter bond was still there.”
While Jasmine floated in her happiness, downstairs, Wiona stared at Wilson from across the room, her eyes hard with resentment.
Her emotions were so raw and fierce that Wilson couldn’t look away. He found himself caught in her stare, unable to move.
“Go on. Bring Mr. Ferguson over. I’ll show him my paintings myself,” Molly said quietly.
She went to invite Wilson. He hesitated, adjusted his glasses, then straightened up and walked over.
“Wiona.”
Wilson tried to smile, but there was an unmistakable regret in his eyes.
Wiona turned and headed toward a quieter corner, away from the crowd.
“Mr. Ferguson, your precious daughter smeared me all over the internet. She made up lies and dragged my name through the mud. The only reason I didn’t go after her was because…” Wiona’s words trailed off, her anger barely under control.
She folded her arms, her glare cold, and looked Wilson up and down. “You actually have the nerve to show up here?”
Wilson felt something shift inside him at the look in her eyes.
His face broke into a hopeful grin. “Wiona…”
“You did the paternity test, didn’t you? You know who I am now.”
“I told you. I never lied to you.”
“I know…” Wilson lowered his voice, glancing around to make sure no one else was nearby. “It’s my fault. I ignored you all those years.”
“Now the truth is out. I don’t blame you for being angry. If we can clear up the misunderstanding and you’re willing to accept me, that would make me the happiest man alive.”
“As for Louisa, she’s always been spoiled. And Bronwen… well, you know what she’s like. Both of them have terrible tempers, and Bronwen gets jealous so easily. I really didn’t know they were attacking you online.”
“As soon as I found out, I made Louisa delete the video. I’ve banned her from going online now.”
“I know you feel hurt. I’ll handle her when I get home. I’ll make sure she apologizes face to face.”
“Wiona… sweetheart…”
Wilson reached out, his voice trembling, but Wiona stepped away before he could touch her.
“Mr. Ferguson, when did I ever say I was going to accept you as my father?”
“After what you did to Cassian, I’m not letting that go.”
“Now please leave.”
Wilson’s face fell for a moment. Pain flickered in his eyes.
“Wiona, you still can’t forgive me?”
“What happened with Cassian was an accident. I just didn’t want him running his mouth and dragging you into gossip. That’s why I acted without thinking. Later, I panicked and sent the flowers because I was afraid he’d blame me when he woke up…”
