Wiona could hardly believe what she was hearing.
Ever since she found out Isaac had kidnapped Bianca and Jean, she knew there was something seriously wrong with him. His mind was dark, twisted. The way he behaved reminded her a little too much of Devin. People like them were more than just troubled. Some were born that way, others became that way, but either way, they were dangerous. Wiona had always believed the best thing to do was keep a safe distance. If you ever had the misfortune to get caught up with someone like that, your only choice was to cut them off, fast and clean. Otherwise, you’d end up trapped in a nightmare with no way out.
But Isaac would go so far as to have someone hurt his own father. That was beyond anything she could imagine. Daniel used to be a giant in the business world, but in the end, his death was humiliating and tragic. Wiona thought back to her days with the Salisburys. Compared to Alona, her mother-in-law, Daniel had always seemed clear-headed and fair, at least when it came to business. She couldn’t help but sigh. Who would’ve thought hewould end up like this? The Salisbury family’s story really was over now.
Bianca, sounding nervous, tried to explain herself. “I… I called the police right away. I just… didn’t expect them to take so long.” Did she even believe that? Wiona didn’t bother questioning her. She had no right to judge how Bianca dealt with the Salisburys, or with the adoptive father who once treated her with such care.
“So, when are you leaving?” Wiona asked, her voice gentle. “Have you picked a country in Europe yet?”
Bianca hesitated. “I’ll wait until Isaac is caught. I won’t feel safe until he’s behind bars. As for where to go, just… choose for me, please.”
She hung up before Wiona could say anything else. Wiona stared at her phone and shook her head.
Molly took the phone, letting out a sigh. “Is she just giving up on school?”
Wiona shrugged. “Honestly, compared to finishing school, getting a fresh start is the best ending anyone from the Salisbury family could hope for now.”
