A glimmer flickered in Conrad’s eyes as he gently pinched her soft cheek. “What you need to do now, Wiona, is look after yourself.”
He lowered his voice. “I know I haven’t been home much lately. I know it’s made you worry.”
“And even tonight, when I couldn’t be here, you still made everyone feel warm and welcome. You pulled off such a lively New Year’s Eve. That makes me so proud of you.”
“My wife is now truly the heart of this home. I’m not alone in this anymore.”
“So, your main job now is to bring our babies safely into the world. Be a mom. Keep yourself and our children healthy.”
“I’ll take care of the rest.”
That was what lingered most on Conrad’s mind. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be in such a hurry to go after Devin.
Wiona knew there was nothing she could do with her big belly. She felt a little helpless, so she cupped Conrad’s face, repeating her words like a mantra. “Promise me you’ll keep yourself safe. Don’t get hurt again.”
“Conrad, I don’t want to lose you young.”
“I don’t want to grow old with someone constantly in pain.”
“I worry about you too, you know?”
Conrad met her gaze, seeing the care written all over her face. The emptiness in his heart was slowly being filled by her, piece by piece.
What more could he possibly want?
He had the best wife anyone could ask for.
She was never shy about her feelings.
In this moment, Conrad felt it deep down—she really loved him.
He smiled and leaned his forehead to hers, his voice soft and rough. “What did you just call me?”
“Wiona, say it again… just for me.”
“Call it my New Year’s present.”
His tone was low, magnetic, almost playful. He was asking for attention like a kid craving praise.
Wiona’s mind spun. What did I call him? Was it… ‘husband’?
Her cheeks flushed red.
He’s so obsessed with this word?
She tried to pull away, but Conrad’s lips found hers before she could.
“Baby, you promised me a reward.”
“Isn’t it time to pay up?”
He kissed her cheeks, her lips, guiding her hand to wrap around his waist. He was still shirtless since earlier, and now he gently led her hand to touch his bare skin.
Wiona was no match for this kind of teasing.
Pregnant or not, she was still a girl with feelings…
Her breath quickened.
“Conrad…”
“What… what are you even doing…”
Conrad just kept kissing her, not giving her a chance to escape. “I want my reward.”
