Chapter 85
Zelda’s sudden outburst left the room steeped in awkward tension.
She wasn’t some rookie freshly promoted into management. Anyone leading a department at her age knew how corporate warfare worked. Her outburst was deliberate, a calculated move to show
where she stood.
Everyone’s attention shifted to Calista, but no one from the project department stepped in. This quarterly performance review was supposed to be their department’s chance to shine.
Instead, the clueless rookie had turned it into a complete embarrassment. With their performance in question and bonuses at risk, everyone was left simmering with a mix of frustration and
resentment.

After Zelda spoke, no one else followed up. The silence stretched thin, as though the entire room was waiting for Lucien to speak.
Lucien hadn’t said a word yet, but the opportunist standing nearby was already eager to seize the
spotlight.
Still glowing from the compliments she had received earlier, Roxanne seemed to forget who she
was standing in front of. She didn’t hesitate to put on a show of authority.
“Apologies, everyone. She’s my trainee. It’s my fault for not guiding her properly. I’ll take full
responsibility,” Roxanne said smoothly.
She had taken the fall for Calista, and her performance was flawless. Under normal
circumstances, that might have been the end of it.
But someone was eager to stir up more drama.
“Mr. Fenwick, which department brought in this new hire? She doesn’t even grasp basic professionalism or understand the importance of punctuality.
“Are we really going to keep people like her at Fenwick Group?” one of the executives standing behind Lucien suddenly chimed in.
The executive wasn’t contributing anything meaningful. He was just trying to make himself visible.
Roxanne clearly saw this as an opportunity to assert some authority, so she deliberately put on a stern face and said, “Calista, you really messed up today. Go ahead and apologize to the executives.
Zelda didn’t say anything, but the look she gave Calista said enough. She clearly expected the same.
Calista swallowed her pride. “I’m sorry. It was my mistake.”
