Calista stared at it, her feelings mixed. Everyone else called this stuff junk food, but for her, it was something else entirely. 

When she was a kid, growing up in a rural village, food like this wasn’t even an option. 

Back then, anything with flavor felt like a luxury, so she learned to eat whatever was in front of her. 

That kind of upbringing had shaped her into the woman she now was. She never developed the habit of being picky. 

Just as she bent down to retrieve it, a voice sounded sharply behind her. 

“Did your department manager never tell you this floor isn’t open to just anyone?” 

She turned slowly. Lucien stood there, dressed in a sharp tailored suit, his expression cold and unreadable. 

Since that day, they had barely spoken. 

“Mr. Fenwick,” she said calmly, her gaze brushing past him as she stepped away, creating some distance between them. 

“It’s my first day, and no one told me. I apologize. I won’t come up here again.” 

But a department manager, Keith Marshall, cast a cautious glance at Lucien before turning to Calista. He wasn’t about to let her off the hook that easily. “And which department are you with?” 

“The project department,” she replied without hesitation. 

Keith sneered inwardly. The project department sounded polished on paper, but everyone knew it was the group sent to wine and dine clients. The implication hung in the air. 

Lucien didn’t contradict her. He even played along, acting as though she were just another anonymous employee. 

But when his eyes landed on the styrofoam cup in her hands, his expression tightened. 

“You’re seriously having that for lunch? Come with me,” he said curtly. 

Keith hadn’t even finished his reprimand before Calista turned to follow Lucien without a word. 

Out on the rooftop terrace, sunlight cast a warm glow on her figure. 

“I’ve told you more than once not to eat that garbage,” Lucien said, his voice rising ever so slightly.
