Calista couldn’t help but wonder if it was the Marchand family’s or Lucien’s idea to have her come here just to be humiliated by Ophelia?
But then again, it didn’t really matter anymore.
Calista wandered forward absentmindedly. Just as she was lost in thought, a tall figure outside caught her eye.
At first, she just noticed how tall the man was. But as he walked closer, Calista felt blood rush up to her head, and a sharp ring filled her ears.
The man was dressed in a black suit. As he strolled through the light autumn rain, he exuded a cold, chilling air.
Calista’s heart clenched in pain. It felt as if a knife had been driven straight through her chest, slicing her heart into pieces.
She clutched her head tightly. The pain coursing through her body was driving her insane. It had just been a fleeting moment, yet it was enough to cause her such agonizing pain.
Only when the pain reached its peak did she suddenly remember where she had seen his face before.
It had also been raining that day, and he was the man in the truck who had suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
“There are two people in there!”
Ever since her miscarriage, Calista’s body had instinctively blocked out that part of her memory. All she could remember was a black cargo truck crashing toward her. As for how many people were in the truck, or what the driver looked like, she had no recollection at all.
But after the shock she had just experienced, her memories suddenly came rushing back.
There were two people in the truck that day, and one of them looked exactly like that man from just now. Just like today, the sky had been overcast, and rain had fallen steadily. It even carried thes same stifling sense of helplessness.
