Alexander looked calm and composed. He knew that Cassius was just looking out for him, but he had never bothered with baseless complaints like these. 

“They’ve already been disproven. It’s fine, Dr. Manings.” 

Seeing that Alexander wasn’t taking the matter seriously, Cassius grew even more frustrated. 

Just as he was about to speak, a knock came from the door. He looked up, only to see that it was Calista. 

At the sight of the woman who nearly ruined Alexander’s career, Cassius‘ face grew increasingly dark. 

“Ms. Marchand, is there a problem?” Cassius asked with a frown. He didn’t hold any personal grudges against Calista. He just wasn’t happy with the trouble she caused. 

“Dr. Manings, the issue with Mr. Finnegan started because of me. I’ll take care of it myself. It has nothing to do with Dr. Lester. I hope the hospital won’t penalize him because of me-” 

“You don’t have to worry about that,” Cassius said, cutting her off and looking up at her calmly. “Ms. Marchand, Alexander is my student. I know his character well. There’s no need for you to take the blame on his behalf. But as for your position as specially Jappointed assistant, I believe…” 

His implications were clear. He and Alexander were cut from the same cloth. Calista should’ve known her place to begin with. 

“I actually came here today to resign. I’m not familiar with the hospital’s internal process, so I thought I’d just report to you directly. Sorry for the trouble.” 

Calista’s heart felt empty, and she looked drained. Without another word, she placed her resignation letter on Cassius‘ table, nodded slightly, and left the office. 

Cassius glanced at the letter, then instinctively looked over at Alexander. 

“You know who she is, don’t you? So why still get involved with her?” 

Over the years, Cassius had seen the best and worst of people. He no longer had the desire to go out of his way to help others.
