Chapter 4
Calista begged, “Please, Grandma. Let me leave the Fenwick family. Let me… divorce Lucien.”
“You…” Serena’s face went white as she clutched her chest, unable to catch her breath.
A second later, Lydia’s panicked scream filled the air. The shock was too much. Serena had collapsed.
Calista knew about Serena’s heart condition. Combined with her advanced age, even Lucien never dared to go against her wishes. She understood this and had mentally prepared herself for the consequences of asking for a divorce that day.
Soon, the entire Fenwick household was in chaos. The family doctor, Felix Jensen, had to rush over.
Meanwhile, Calista remained kneeling in the courtyard, perfectly still and upright, enduring the scorching sun. She stayed there until the sun set and the sky gradually darkened, with heavy clouds gathering. It looked like it was going to pour soon.
A young woman in a lace princess dress with long, flowing hair and delicate doll-like features approached, holding an umbrella. She slowly crouched in front of Calista. “Calista, what did you say to Grandma?”
Calista said nothing.
Andrea Fenwick smiled slightly. “Calista, you’ve got some nerve. Even Lucien has never made Grandma this angry. Aren’t you afraid of what he’ll do when he gets back?
“The only reason he married you in the first place was to avoid upsetting Grandma. But ever since you joined this family, we haven’t had a single day of peace because of you, Calista.
“Even Lucien doesn’t want to see you. Spending three years alone in that cold house… It can’t have been easy.
“Things are already this bad, so why won’t you just divorce Lucien? You should really think about this, Calista.”
Andrea then left with her umbrella. The sky had turned pitch black, and a light drizzle had begun to fall.
Calista had fainted several times, but she was determined. Once she decided on something, she never looked back.
When the cold wind and drizzle hit her, Calista slowly pulled herself back up to kneel properly. She stared at the lit room upstairs.
“Mr. Fenwick still won’t answer his phone. There’s a storm in Eldoria and all flights are delayed. We’ve tried talking to Ms. Marchand, but she won’t get up. If this keeps going, her body won’t hold out!”
