Chapter 21
Lucien remained just as cold and distant as ever, like a block of ice that no warmth could ever melt.
Calista nodded. “Yeah. I’ve thought it over. I’ve decided not to divorce you.”
adowed with an unreadable emotion.
Lucien opened his eyes and turned to glance sideways at Calista, his eyes
Compared to the way she used to be, Lucien felt that something about her was missing this time, though he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
“If you dare pull this divorce stunt again, then get out of Dorcan for good,” he said.
A sharp ache shot through Calista’s chest. “There won’t be a next time.”
In the end, Calista didn’t go through with the divorce. The entire Fenwick family treated her backing out of the divorce like a ridiculous
joke.
Calista was taken back to the Juniville estate while Lucien returned to Fenwick Group with Galen.
She stepped into the mansion alone, pausing at the entrance as her gaze swept over the empty living room. Everything that had happened over the past month felt like a dream to her.
She gently placed her hand over her flat stomach. Somehow, she could still sense her baby’s presence.
Calista dragged herself to the bottom step of the staircase and sat, staring blankly into the distance. This was the exact spot where she had lost her baby.
After Lucien left with Ophelia that day, she had collapsed here alone, watching her blood slowly spread across the floor. By the time she got to the hospital, her child was already gone.
There was nothing more devastating in this world than when the heart finally gave up.
Calista didn’t know how long she had been sitting in the hallway, lost in thought.
By the time she returned to her senses, it was already dark outside. The corridor behind her was pitch black.
She glanced at the time on her phone and saw that the battery was down to just over 10%. Her phone was on silent, and she had several
missed calls from Rebecca.
Calista headed upstairs to her room and called Rebecca back. The call went through after just a moment.
“Mom,” she said.
Rebecca’s anxious voice came through the line. “You little brat, where have you been? Your brother’s awake. When are you coming to see him?”
“Really? Is he alright now?”
A rare smile lit up Calista’s face. It had been so long since she’d had anything to feel happy about.
