Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 504

Charlotte stood frozen, not daring to turn her head or even move. Evander's masked face was inches from hers; if he leaned in just a little closer, his lips would meet hers.

The tense silence stretched on for what felt like an eternity before she finally broke it, her voice barely a whisper. "Are you done?"

Evander's gaze lingered on her lips as they moved, the impulse he was holding back finally suppressed. "Yes," he murmured. "All done."

Charlotte quickly stepped into the elevator.

Evander glanced away for a second before following her inside.

Only after the two metal doors slid shut did Leo step out from the shadows, a phone pressed to his ear. "Mr. Evander and Miss Rayburn's relationship is definitely unusual," he reported. "They seem very… intimate."

On the other end of the line, Kate Rayburn was so absorbed that she forgot about the fine wine in her hand. After giving a few more instructions, she ended the call with a cold glint in her eyes. "That daughter of Sean's is really something else, getting involved with Mr. Evander so quickly!"

Quincy Rayburn leaned back in his armchair, propping his feet up on the table. "Who's to say they haven't been involved for a while? I find it hard to believe someone who just arrived in the country would so quickly fall in with Caleb and also get tangled up with Sean's daughter. These things take time."

Kate mulled over his words. "You have a point. If they've been involved for a while, doesn't that give Sean and Caleb an advantage?"

"Sis, why are you in such a hurry?" Quincy sat up, spearing a piece of fruit from the bowl on the table with a fork. "So what if the old man wants to set up Sean's daughter with Jason? Nothing's set in stone. A little nudge could change everything, easy as that." He smirked. "And doesn't that useless heir of the Lowe family need a wife? You can't exactly seal a deal like that without… creating a situation that can't be undone."

Kate burst out laughing, swirling the red wine in her glass. "I'd almost forgotten about that. You're right. How can we guarantee a marriage without making it a done deal?"

Meanwhile, Evander drove Charlotte back to Midvale Estates.

He pulled the car to a stop under the dim glow of a streetlight. Charlotte unbuckled her seatbelt, but before opening the door, she turned back to Evander, looking like she had something to say.

Evander feigned ignorance, a half-smile playing on his lips. "Can't bear to leave me?"
