Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 503

Charlotte watched the people around her, lost in thought. She had no experience dealing with businesspeople, and her only hope for her father and brother's situation had been that a successful experiment might turn things around.

But over the past few days, she had seen with painful clarity that her own position was just as precarious, like living on a knife's edge.

The family's cold calculations wouldn't wait for her to achieve a breakthrough. Her own value had been reduced to nothing more than a link between Mr. Rayburn, Caleb Rayburn, and "Jason Evander." If any other man who could benefit them had come along, she knew she would have been a sacrificial pawn.

When that time came, could she really rely on her father and brother?

Charlotte took a deep breath, steadying the turmoil inside her.

"Why are you telling me all this?"

"Because right now, I'm Jason, and I want you to be able to protect yourself. Especially in front of them, you can't show your hand, and you can't show fear." With that, Evander stood up and walked over to another group to toast and talk business.

Unlike his identity as the "heir to The Capital's Howard family," "Jason" needed to network. As he played the part, he seemed genuinely different from his usual self.

And she desperately wanted to know why he was using this identity, and what had happened to his face…

Before she could dwell on it, a voice interrupted her thoughts. "Miss Rayburn, is this your first time in a place like this?"

She turned to see a relatively young man with slicked-back hair taking a seat beside her, a glass of wine in his hand.

Charlotte instinctively glanced in Evander's direction, but he and the group he was with were no longer in the suite.

"Are you looking for Mr. Evander? He stepped out to talk with a few directors from Helios Group," the man said, clearly noticing her unease. He added, "My name is Leo, Human Resources Director at Vance & Co. Here is my card."

When he offered the business card, Charlotte politely took it and glanced it over.

Leo smiled faintly. "Is this your first time somewhere like this, Miss Rayburn? You seem a little uncomfortable."

He was all smiles, but his tone was probing.

Charlotte frowned as Evander's words echoed in her mind: *Don't show your hand, and don't show fear.*

"It's just my first time in such an extravagant nightclub," she replied smoothly. "If it weren't for Mr. Evander, I wouldn't have even known a place like this existed."
