Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 505

Thinking everyone in the house was asleep, Charlotte tiptoed up the stairs. The hallway light suddenly flashed on, making her jump. She turned around slowly.

Wesley was leaning against the doorframe, his arms crossed. "Just getting in?"

"Oh... you're still up?"

"I was just about to head to bed when I heard a noise. For a second, I thought a burglar was sneaking in."

Charlotte looked a little embarrassed. "I was observing at Professor Carstairs' lab today," she explained. "We ended up having a late dinner, so I got held up."

Wesley nodded. "How was it?"

"It's great. They're collaborating with the Institute for Medical Technology, so they have a fully equipped lab and staff. No need to spend money hiring anyone."

He was silent for a few seconds before finally letting out a sigh. "As long as you're happy."

As Charlotte started toward her room, she paused and looked back over her shoulder. "You should get some sleep too, Wesley. Don't work too hard."

Wesley froze for a moment, then looked down with a small smile and gave her a wave.

Only after he watched her disappear into her room did the exhaustion finally show on his face. He rubbed his temples, his expression growing heavy.

His grandfather's words weighed on his mind, impossible to ignore.

The man had made it clear he intended to use his sister as a pawn in an arranged marriage, whether Wesley agreed or not. It was time to make a decision. Regardless of what his grandfather wanted, he would not let his sister be forced into that kind of life.

He wouldn't let her get hurt in any way.

The next morning, when Charlotte came downstairs, the housekeeper served her a solitary breakfast. She glanced at the empty seats at the table. "Where are Mom, Dad, and Wesley?"
