Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 462

Meanwhile, in the Capital, Miranda Sutherland was inconsolable over her son’s death, weeping day and night, unable to eat or sleep. Jacques Howard was consumed by regret for not having been with him at the party. Their only son was gone, and his grief was as profound as his wife’s.

Rosemary Howard had collapsed upon hearing the news and was still in the hospital. Her advanced age made the shock too much for her body to bear, and she was being kept alive by nutritional supplements. Evander’s death had shattered the Howard family. It also left them vulnerable to opportunistic relatives like Jensen and Ilse.

Ilse Sylvan Howard arrived at the hospital with a bouquet of flowers, her cheerful demeanor a stark contrast to the somber mood of her brother-in-law and his wife. “Jacques, Miranda, I heard about Evander,” she said, her voice dripping with false sympathy. “You must be strong.”

“It’s been days. If you truly cared, you would have come sooner,” Miranda snapped, glaring at her. She knew Ilse was here just to cause trouble.

“Now, that’s not fair,” Ilse said with a saccharine smile. “I’ve been busy looking after the Howard family’s business interests. I understand your grief, but you can’t let the company fall apart because of it. Everyone has their fate. This was Evander’s, and he couldn’t escape it.”

“That’s enough, you—” Miranda gasped, a sharp pain seizing her chest, and she nearly fainted.

Jacques caught her, his face grim as he looked at Ilse. “Don’t you think you should watch what you say?”

“You’re right, Jacques. I suppose I can be more tactful… depending on Miranda’s attitude.”

Miranda struggled for breath. This was the very definition of a villain gloating.

“Oh, and by the way,” Ilse added, “with this tragedy, it’s high time Genevieve came back from abroad. After all, she’s the only grandchild the Howard family has left now.”

She let out a small laugh and pushed open the door to the hospital room.

The emotional strain was too much for Miranda. Her breath caught in her throat, and she collapsed. Jacques frantically called for a doctor.

Ilse’s conversation with Rosemary clearly hadn’t gone well. She emerged from the room a few minutes later, her face a mask of fury. “You old hag,” she muttered under her breath. “You’d better hold on long enough to see the Howard family fall into my daughter’s hands.”

Just then, her phone rang.
