Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 463

The moment Genevieve’s flight landed, Ilse was there to greet her, fussing with her scarf. “Your return is our golden opportunity, darling. You must make the most of it.”

“Is… is he really dead?”

Ilse’s smile vanished. “You may have seen him as a brother, but did he ever treat you like a sister? Don’t forget, he was the one who ruthlessly sent you abroad.”

Genevieve fell silent, her head bowed.

Ilse placed her hands on her daughter’s shoulders. “Genevieve, do you have any idea how hard it’s been for us to get this far? If you were a boy, you might have had a chance, but you’re not. If Evander hadn’t died, we would never have had this opening. Do you really want to be married off by the family one day? Especially after the Rayburns broke off your engagement, you won’t find another match like that.”

At the mention of the Rayburns, Genevieve’s expression soured. She irritably pushed her mother’s hands away. “Alright, I get it. Can we just not talk about that anymore?”

Ilse smiled. “Okay, sweetie, I won’t mention it again. Let’s go home.”

Genevieve sullenly got into the car. Ilse, unbothered, knew she now had the upper hand. Unless Miranda miraculously produced another son, no one could challenge her daughter’s claim.

Charlotte went to the prison to visit Chairman Lennox but was, unsurprisingly, denied. Vera was waiting for her outside the second correctional unit.

“No luck?” she asked as Charlotte emerged.

Charlotte shook her head.

“But why?” Vera wondered. “If they were truly innocent, why would they willingly take the fall for someone else?”

“Neely must have some kind of leverage over them,” Charlotte mused. She remembered the face she’d seen all those years ago—it was Neely, she was sure of it. But after so much time, she had no proof, and she didn't even know if his accomplices were still around.

Lost in thought, her phone rang. It was Hiram Sterling.

“Sis, are… are you okay? I saw the news…” he stammered, clearly hesitant to mention Evander.
