Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 339

Dominic heard the door close and glanced over his shoulder, one eyebrow arching ever so slightly.

He couldn’t help but let out a low chuckle, remembering how Cynthia’s cheeks had flushed in embarrassment just moments ago. Settling back into his office chair, he looked almost amused.

The senior executives on the video call, who’d just been sneaking peeks at their phones, quickly set them aside when they saw Dominic return to his seat.

“Let’s continue,” Dominic said, his deep voice cutting through the awkward silence.

The executive who’d been interrupted earlier resumed his report, trying to sound as composed as possible.

While listening, the rest of the managers watched Dominic’s expression intently, gauging his mood with the kind of caution one reserved for wild animals. His expression hadn’t changed much since he’d stepped away, but it was clear to everyone: the razor-sharp edge he normally carried seemed dulled, almost replaced by a faint, unfamiliar hint of contentment.

Given the woman’s voice they’d overheard and the glimpse they’d caught of the apartment behind Dominic, a conclusion began to form among the group.

Mr. Holloway was in a relationship.

And, by the looks of it, he was living with her.

The only mystery left was the identity of the woman who had managed to capture the notoriously unapproachable Mr. Holloway. After the meeting, they all planned to corner Dominic’s trusted assistant, Shaw, for answers. Best to be prepared in case the boss’s girlfriend—maybe soon-to-be Mrs. Holloway—showed up at the office; nobody wanted to risk making a bad impression.

The meeting dragged on for another two hours before it finally ended.

Cynthia had already finished drying her hair by then. Seeing the study light still on, she sat quietly on the living room sofa, waiting.

When Dominic finally emerged, she stood up, still holding the hair dryer in her hand.

“I’m not sure where you usually keep this…” she admitted, a little sheepish.

She’d been so flustered when Dominic handed her the hair dryer earlier—guilty for interrupting his call—that she hadn’t even noticed where he’d gotten it from.

After a few days in the apartment, Cynthia had started to notice a pattern: everything had its specific place. Dominic clearly didn’t like things out of order.

He took the hair dryer from her, then, almost absentmindedly, grabbed the remote and turned on the TV.

He nodded. “You start a round—I’ll join you after I take a shower.”

“Alright,” Cynthia said.

The apartment grew quiet again as Dominic disappeared into the master bedroom. She watched his retreating figure until he was out of sight, then let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding.

She never would have guessed she’d end up living under the same roof as Dominic Holloway.

Instead of starting the game on her own, Cynthia just sat quietly on the couch, waiting for him.

When Dominic finally returned, he was dressed in silk pajamas, his hair still damp from the shower. A subtle, fresh scent clung to him, filling the room.

Cynthia felt as if her senses were being overwhelmed by his presence alone.

“All done?” he asked, taking a seat next to her and glancing at her phone screen.
