Dominic soon rose from his seat and walked over to the wine cabinet, selecting a bottle of red and pouring himself a glass. He grabbed a bottle of juice as well, filling a glass for Cynthia.
As Dominic raised his wine glass, Cynthia caught on immediately, lifting her own glass in response.
Their glasses clinked together. Cynthia quickly snapped a photo.
Dominic took a slow sip of his wine, then reached out his hand to her.
Without needing to be told, Cynthia placed her phone in his palm.
He scrolled through the photos with a look of appreciation, picking out three of them to send to himself before handing the phone back.
“I think these three turned out really well—honestly, you did a great job. And dinner was wonderful too.”
Cynthia felt almost giddy at his praise. She opened the three pictures Dominic had chosen and, on a whim, posted them to her social feed.
Once she’d finished, she set her phone aside to eat with him.
Dominic was quiet throughout the meal, speaking little, but he seemed noticeably more approachable than usual.
After they finished eating, Cynthia gathered the dishes and headed for the kitchen.
Dominic trailed after her.
He took the leftover food, emptied it into a trash bag, and then helped Cynthia tidy up.
Even though Cynthia insisted she could handle it on her own, Dominic stubbornly stayed, silently sorting and cleaning beside her.
Seeing this, Cynthia didn’t protest any further.
Every time their hands brushed as they put things away, Cynthia’s heart would skip a beat.
It felt as if the air in the kitchen had grown thin—charged with Dominic’s presence.
Luckily, with both of them working, they finished quickly.
Once everything was back in order, Cynthia slipped away to her small room, finally feeling her heart settle down.
“Understood, Mr. Holloway.”
“Yes, sir.”
“We’ll leave you to it.”
Cynthia froze in the doorway, utterly confused.
Realizing Dominic was in the middle of a video conference, she quickly backed out of the study, head lowered in embarrassment.
A moment later, Dominic came out and handed her the hair dryer.
Cynthia whispered an apology. “Sorry, I didn’t realize you were on a call.”
He gave her a long, unreadable look, then turned and went back to his study, still leaving the door open.
Cynthia, still flustered, quietly closed the door for him on her way out.
