Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 332

Dominic watched her, quietly amazed at how unusually well-behaved and silent Cynthia was, sitting off to the side. He shot her a probing glance.

Sensing his gaze, Cynthia immediately straightened up, tilting her head just enough to meet his eyes with a forced smile.

“Mr. Holloway, you’ve already scolded Viola just now. You’re not planning to scold me next, are you?”

Dominic let out a cold, almost amused laugh. His voice was measured as he replied, “That depends on how you behave.”

“I’ll be on my best behavior,” Cynthia promised, nodding with exaggerated seriousness.

Dominic gave a low, noncommittal “Mm,” his voice deep as he continued, “Where you’re living now isn’t safe. There’s zero security, and it wouldn’t take much for someone to get to you. One careless moment and you could be in real trouble. So, starting tonight, you’ll stay at my hotel.”

Cynthia froze, caught off guard by the order. Then she protested, “Mr. Holloway, I know everyone in the neighborhood. They’re all my grandmother’s old friends. If anything suspicious happens, people here always—”

Dominic cut her off, his tone brooking no argument. “People aren’t always what they seem. How can you be sure they won’t be tempted by a quick buck?”

He narrowed his eyes, voice even colder. “Desperate people do desperate things. If Father Benedict finds out you’re investigating his embezzlement, are you really so sure he won’t come after you?”

His logic was unassailable, and Cynthia found herself at a loss for words. If Benedict’s embezzlement was uncovered, he’d be facing jail time. Who knew what he’d do to protect himself?

Dominic saw the hesitation on her face and added, voice icy, “You’re working for me now. If anything happens to you under my watch, your sister would jump at the chance to blame Holloway Enterprises. To avoid any unnecessary trouble, you’ll do as I say.”

Cynthia couldn’t think of any more excuses. She nodded. “Okay.”

Seeing her acquiesce, Dominic’s furrowed brow finally relaxed. He spoke in an offhanded tone, “I’ll have my assistant help you pack up later.”

She immediately hurried over to water the flowers and plants in the yard. The weather in Cloudcrest City had been brutal lately, and after her trip to The Capital, some of the plants were wilting from neglect.

Dominic stood to the side, watching her. Worried he’d get impatient, Cynthia offered a quick explanation. “These were my grandmother’s plants. She took such good care of them. I’ll just water them, then go inside to pack. It won’t take long.”

Dominic nodded slightly, then reached over and took the hose from her. “Go pack your things. I’ll take care of this.”

She thought about protesting, but he held the hose with such determined insistence that she had no choice but to let go, heading inside to gather her belongings.

Before going in, Cynthia glanced back. There was Dominic, one hand in his pocket, calmly watering the flowers. Something unidentifiable flickered in her eyes.

Then she looked to the wall, where photos of her late grandmother and mother hung in silent remembrance. Instantly, her heart sank.
