Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 331

Cynthia wasn’t the least bit intimidated. She met the glare with an easy smile and calm, unwavering eyes.

When two people lock eyes like that, someone’s bound to back down first.

Viola, ever conscious of her image in front of Dominic, was the first to look away. Inside, though, she was seething—she wished she could wring Cynthia’s neck then and there.

They boarded the plane.

Viola’s seat was right beside Dominic’s—and Cynthia’s.

The entire flight, Viola kept trying to strike up a conversation with Dominic, searching desperately for any opening. But Dominic couldn’t have been less interested; after a few polite, dismissive responses, he simply pulled on an eye mask and leaned back to rest.

Viola felt the sting of being ignored yet again. Frustration flickered in her eyes, but as she glanced up, she caught Cynthia watching her with a faint, mocking smile. The look reignited Viola’s competitive spirit.

“Don’t get so smug,” Viola mouthed silently at Cynthia.

But Cynthia answered out loud, her tone innocent. “Sorry? What did you say?”

A flash of panic crossed Viola’s face. She darted a glance at Dominic to make sure he hadn’t stirred, then shot Cynthia a furious glare before slumping back in her seat, biting her tongue.

Observing Cynthia and Dominic together, Viola realized their relationship wasn’t as close as she’d feared.

Given the Tremaines’ current situation, the Holloways would never let someone like Cynthia into their family. Viola just needed to bide her time and she’d find a way to push Cynthia out of their social circle for good. There was no way she would let Cynthia climb over her and lord it over everyone else.

Cloudcrest City.

As soon as the plane landed, Dominic lifted his eye mask and glanced out the window.

Dominic didn’t let up. “If word got out, you’d be the laughingstock of the Chalfont family. Your sister’s already engaged to the Raynes, and with them backing you up—not to mention your aunt’s support—there’s no need for Miss Chalfont to work so hard. Why not just stay home and enjoy being a useless socialite, instead of making yourself a burden to others?”

Viola fell silent, her face flushing red and pale by turns. She looked as though she’d just been slapped in front of a crowd.

Cynthia couldn’t help but marvel at Dominic’s ruthlessness. Thinking back to the times he’d verbally cut her down, she realized he’d actually been merciful with her.

Viola bit her lip so hard her eyes turned glassy with tears, but Dominic, unfazed, didn’t spare her a second glance. He simply walked off.

Cynthia hurried after him, her heart pounding in her chest.

Dominic was clearly in a foul mood today—and Viola had stumbled right into his line of fire.

Cynthia kept her head down, careful not to draw attention to herself as she followed in Dominic’s wake.
