Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 322

Cynthia spoke quietly, her tone steady. “No. He’ll be waiting for me here. We’ll finish this together.”

Her certainty made the boy’s smile falter.

“So, do you have a thing for Mr. Holloway?”

Cynthia didn’t answer. Instead, she kept searching for a way out, maintaining a cautious distance from him.

If her instincts were right, this boy knew Dominic. She had no idea why he was approaching her, so she had to stay alert.

When Cynthia remained silent, the boy didn’t press her about her personal life. He just continued to poke around for hidden mechanisms, glancing at her as he spoke.

“Do you believe in love at first sight?”

“I only believe in love at first lust,” Cynthia replied dryly.

The boy let out a low chuckle.

Cynthia’s guard shot up, half-convinced there was something seriously off about him.

Fortunately, her hand landed on a real mirror—she spotted a tiny flaw at the corner and pressed it. Instantly, the wall shifted aside, revealing a hidden door.

“Wow, you’re good,” the boy exclaimed in awe.

Cynthia didn’t hesitate. She strode toward the exit, with the boy quick to follow.

As she stepped out, she expected to see Dominic waiting. Instead, the hallway was completely empty.

“Looks like Mr. Holloway didn’t wait for you after all,” the boy remarked.

Cynthia kept her composure. “This isn’t the same hallway I came in through.”

The boy paused, then flashed a smile. “You’re sharp. Most girls who play this escape game freak out or burst into tears the moment they get separated from their friends.”

Cynthia shot him a look and said nothing. On the wall, she noticed something that looked like an envelope. She went over, opened it, and scanned the contents—a clue.

The boy edged closer to read over her shoulder. Cynthia frowned, not liking his proximity, and handed him the envelope instead.

Dominic’s tone was mild. “I was worried you might not be that clever.”

Cynthia let out a huff. “…”

He continued, “Someone from staff will be there for you soon. If you want to keep going, we can start over.”

Cynthia mumbled her agreement, a rush of warmth spreading in her chest.

Dominic had quit on purpose and called her because he was worried she’d get hurt.

Once she confirmed she was all right, Dominic hung up.

Moments later, a staff member appeared through another door and politely led Cynthia away.

She didn’t spare a single glance at the boy still standing in the hallway.

He watched her leave, a smile on his lips, but in his eyes burned a fierce spark of competition.
