Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 321

Deep in thought, Cynthia looked up and realized she’d fallen behind—there was already a widening gap between her and Dominic.

She hurried to catch up, but just then, a panel ahead began to slide shut.

“Mr. Holloway…” she called, voice strained with urgency.

Dominic turned, meeting her eyes just as the panel threatened to close between them. He strode quickly back toward her, and Cynthia rushed to meet him—but she was still a step too slow.

The barrier snapped closed, separating them before she could reach him.

Cynthia banged her fists against the panel. “Mr. Holloway! Mr. Holloway, can you hear me?”

Silence. Not a sound came from the other side.

She ran her hands along the smooth surface, searching for a latch, a lever, anything that might release the barrier. Her fingers brushed over a hidden door. With a spark of hope, she pushed it open, expecting to find Dominic waiting beyond.

But when she peered through, the other side was empty. Dominic was nowhere in sight.

Cynthia froze, shock flickering in her eyes. She was certain Dominic wouldn’t just abandon her—not without a word, not like this.

The atmosphere was oppressive, shadows curling in the corners, a haunting soundtrack echoing through the space. When Dominic had been beside her, she’d managed to keep her nerves in check. Now, alone, goosebumps prickled along her arms.

There’s no way this room has only one secret door, she thought.

Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Cynthia began searching the other walls with careful fingers. At last, she discovered another hidden entrance.

She stepped through into a new space.

This room was filled with mirrors—dozens of them, arranged at odd angles. As she entered, Cynthia caught her own reflection in one and jumped, startled. Instinctively, she tried to slip back through the secret door, only to find it sealed tight behind her.

A chill ran through her. Heart pounding, she recognized the young man who’d spoken to her at the entrance earlier. Instantly, she was on guard.

He saw her too, his eyes widening in surprise, then lighting up with a nervous smile.

“Hey, you’re here too?”

Cynthia drew a steadying breath, forced a polite—if distant—smile, and nodded. “I wandered in by mistake.”

He glanced past her, curiosity evident. “Did you get separated from Mr. Holloway?”

“No,” Cynthia replied calmly. “He should be somewhere nearby. Probably in one of these rooms.”

The young man grinned. “How do you know? What if Mr. Holloway already found the way out?”
