Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 320

The set design was so convincing that Cynthia truly felt as if she’d been dropped inside a real crypt.

Suddenly, a spider dangled down right in front of her face, swaying on a long strand of silk. Its eyes glinted red in the dim light, making the scene all the more eerie.

Cynthia sucked in a sharp breath and clung desperately to Dominic’s hand. She kept reminding herself it was all fake, but the moment her gaze met the spider’s, she couldn’t help but flinch.

Dominic turned, noticing she’d frozen in fear. He was about to pull her closer when the spider’s thread snapped, sending it plummeting straight onto the top of Cynthia’s shoe.

She shook her foot in a panic, trying to fling the creature off. To her horror, once it hit the ground, it immediately scuttled toward her.

Heart pounding, Cynthia instinctively pressed herself against Dominic’s side.

He wrapped an arm around her and guided her a few steps back.

They both watched as the spider disappeared into a small hole in the wall, right where Cynthia had just been standing.

Dominic glanced down at her pale face and offered a gentle explanation.

“It’s just part of the programming. Once the spider drops, it’s coded to look for a hole. You happened to be standing in front of its target, so it came at you.”

Cynthia took a deep breath, feeling a little embarrassed about the startled yelp she’d let out.

Dominic waited for her to compose herself before asking,

“This is only the beginning. Want to keep going? We can leave at any time if it’s too much.”

“Let’s keep going,” Cynthia replied immediately.

She’d just been caught off guard, that was all. If she’d been a little more prepared, the jump scares wouldn’t have rattled her so much.

Dominic nodded and held out his hand.

Without hesitation, Cynthia placed her hand in his, though her heart was still thudding in her chest.

This time, she was smarter—she walked right behind him, practically glued to his back.

But they’d barely gone a few steps when Cynthia suddenly felt something clutch her ankle.

Dominic raised an eyebrow.

Cynthia’s eyes shone with excitement. “Let’s keep going. Now I’m really curious what else they’ve got in store.”

Dominic just stared at her.

There wasn’t a trace of fear left in her eyes—only an eager fascination with the next challenge. She even let go of Dominic’s hand as she moved forward, fully absorbed in the experience.

He glanced down at his now-empty hand, then continued on.

Cynthia followed at a relaxed pace, her mind already racing ahead to business ideas—specifically, how Tremaine Holdings might repurpose their abandoned commercial buildings in other cities.

Maybe this was exactly the kind of opportunity she’d been looking for.

With the downturn in brick-and-mortar retail, some of Tremaine Holdings’ developments had been sitting vacant for years. They couldn’t sell them, and there were no takers for leases either.

But what if they turned them into entertainment centers, offering experiences like this? It could be the perfect way to breathe new life into those forgotten properties.
