He was filled with a bitter rage, unable to comprehend how his complete devotion had been met with such betrayal.
All those years of hard work, of scheming to give them a better life… he had abandoned his own children, burned every bridge.
Now, the cruel reality stabbed into his heart like a shard of glass.
He stared at the woman huddled on the ground, weeping, and felt the absurdity of it all.
His eyes burned with fury as his voice trembled. “I gave everything for this family. Why would you do this to me?”
Sophia lay sobbing in the snow, her head down. She couldn't meet his gaze, only managing to choke out, “I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…”
She squeezed her eyes shut, tears streaming down her face. She had been so lonely, and after they reconnected, one thing had led to another. But Nathan could never know the truth.
Nathan was genuinely devoted to her. Mr. Wilson was just having fun.
He would never divorce his wife for her; he was too afraid of his wife's powerful family.
Nathan finally stopped, exhausted from the beating.
Sophia cried for a while longer before looking up, her cheeks swollen and a trickle of blood at the corner of her mouth.
She looked at Nathan with scorn. “You pathetic loser. Without Wendy, you’re nothing.”
“You got a taste of the good life for all those years, and now that it’s gone, you can’t handle it. You can’t accept being a nobody again, so you’re taking all your misery out on me.”
“You’re just bitter about being poor again, Nathan. You’re nothing but a complete and utter bastard.”
