Chapter 810: For me?

In the time scheduled for the evening —

Zenith finally reached the restaurant. As she got down the cab, she checked the time on her watch and took a deep breath. And just then, she received a call from her mother again. Receiving which, she responded without even letting her mother speak.

"Mom, you need to relax now. I have reached here in time. And today, I won’t be making any excuses. I will meet him."

The lady on the other end of the call cleared her throat and quickly said, "I am not anxious. I just heard your aunt praise him a lot. And wanted you to see and check if he could really match what you are looking for."

"Mom," Zenith’s brows tugged in a small frown. ’I already told you that I agreed to come to this blind date, but don’t expect too much out of this arrangement. I might not like him at all. This is just the first date I am going on, and you already expect me to say yes to him?"

"Why not?" Her mother spoke in a tone of reason. "You find the very first guy attractive and good enough to spend the whole life with, then why not? Zenith, be practical, you can’t get a handsome price charming from your dreamland coming for you. So, rather than being delusional and waiting for the right one, be practical."

Zenith paused at that for a moment before humming. "I got that, Mom. I won’t say it for sure. But I will try to see him from the right lens."

"Dear, I know I shouldn’t be forcing you like this, but any guy who is there, ready to accept your dreams and respect you, are worth trying. Love is for later. Women fall for men’s efforts. Once you see him making those for you, you will start loving him anyway. That’s how I started loving your father, and believe me, it won’t be any different for you."

What her mother was trying to explain to her, Zenith knew. And she didn’t feel like getting forced into anything. It was just that she wasn’t very sure if she was still very ready for it. She decided to come to this date, agreed to it —but now that she was here, she didn’t know if she was doing it right.

Was she even doing right?

Ryan’s words from the last night kept ringing in her ears, and he couldn’t help but feel like she was deliberately forcing herself into something that she wasn’t very sure of.

"Zenith, you are still there?"

Her mother’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts, and she quickly blinked her eyes to compose herself back. Clearing her throat a little, she replied, "Yes, Mom. I heard you, and I promise I will think about it. But right now, I think I should head inside the restaurant. I am not sure if David has arrived or is still on his way."

"Oh yes," her mother said from the other end. "I shouldn’t hold you back with my talks when you actually have to save energy for later. Go ahead and meet him with an open heart. Try giving him the chance if he seems worth it."

Zenith didn’t speak anymore. She simply hummed in response before hanging up the call. Keeping her phone back in her bag, she paused for a second and whispered to herself.

"Mom was saying right, Zenith. You need to understand. The man you have in your heart ... it’s simply impossible with him. Not even a dream could bring him to you." She shook her head. "So, it’s time to be realistic in life."

She took in a deep breath before staring up at the restaurant. Trying to make her heart as determined as her mind, she finally took her steps to walk inside.

However, just as her hand was about to reach for the door, another hand brushed against her to open the door before her.

She at once pulled away and turned to look at the person with a slow frown between her brows. However, the man who stood in front of her merely smiled.

"I am sorry, I didn’t actually intend to make you uncomfortable. I was just opening the door for you." The man spoke, and there was something in his gaze that made Zenith’s frown deepen —not in infuriation, but in confusion.

He looked at her like he knew her. And even though he said his action wasn’t intentional, it felt like it was, not in the wrong way. But as if it was for her.

"For me?" she asked, not letting the tug between her brows ease. "Sorry, I didn’t get you right. What do you mean?"

The man’s smile only deepened at her confusion. He looked at her and then flicked his gaze towards the door before returning back to her to nod and say, "Yes, for you." He reconfirmed. "I was opening the door for you. After all, it’s not nice to let your date open the door for herself when I am present there to do it for her."

Date!
