Chapter 411: No Need to Worry

LUNA

For a long moment, Abel remained motionless, standing silently before the tranquil clearing where the two trees twisted together in quiet harmony.

When his gaze finally returned to me, I noticed a flicker of unease in his eyes—an unexpected vulnerability that made my heart swell with warmth.

He let out a deep breath and nervously rubbed his palms against his trousers, as if bracing himself for a daunting Alpha council rather than simply paying respects to the resting place of two souls who, I was certain, would have adored him instantly.

I couldn’t help but chuckle softly. “You really don’t have to be so tense.”

He shot me a quick glance and said hurriedly, “I’m not nervous,” before rubbing his hands again. “I just… I should’ve known better. You should’ve told me sooner.”

“Told me what?” I asked, curious.

“So I could’ve brought flowers first,” he admitted, his voice sincere.

I shook my head gently, whispering, “There’s no need for that. My mom was a simple woman—she’d just be happy knowing we’re here.”

Abel nodded slowly, swallowing hard. Clearing his throat, he straightened his posture, then took a tentative step forward toward the stone.

At that moment, everything around me seemed to pause.

“Hi,” he said softly.

He was actually speaking to them?

My lips parted slightly as he bent down a little, bowing his head with quiet respect. The sunlight filtered through the leaves above, casting dappled shadows across his broad shoulders.

“Hi,” he repeated, his voice steadier this time. “My name is Abel.”

I wrapped my arms around myself, suddenly feeling breathless.

He went on.

“I never got the chance to meet you,” he said gently. “Not in the way I wish I had. But I want to say thank you.”

My breath caught in my throat.

His tone softened even more. “Thank you for giving me my angel.”

A single tear slipped down my cheek before I even realized it had fallen.

He continued, his voice full of quiet admiration. “She’s… beautiful. Inside and out. Strong, gentle, stubborn. She laughs with abandon, cares deeply, and loves fiercely.”

He lifted his gaze slightly, staring at the stone as if my parents stood right there before him.

“You don’t have to worry about her,” he promised. “I’ll take care of her from now on.”

Every word carried the weight of his sincerity.

He swallowed again, his eyes softening.

“Just…,” his voice trembled ever so slightly, “just keep my parents company, will you?”

“What?” I whispered, stunned.

Suddenly, Abel took a few steps past me toward another stone.

I followed his movement, heart pounding.

He stood quietly, brushing dirt from his hands with a sigh I’d never heard before.

The stone was only a few feet away.

My breath caught in my chest.

He glanced back at me, a small, bittersweet smile tugging at his lips.
