378 Domestic
LUNA
We were now on our way back to Fenra in Cade’s yacht under the night sky. Arden turned toward me. “You’re really an angel, Luna,” she said suddenly.
“Huh?” I tilted my head, surprised.
“You gave him cotton candy,” she said. “You actually handed Jaxon a whole piece. He was shocked out of his mind.”
I puffed out a small breath, remembering how he had looked. “He really did look like he wanted it,” I muttered. “And it was to not make a scene. We were in another territory, after all. It worked, right?”
Arden smiled faintly, her lips pressing into a thoughtful line. “It did,” she admitted.
The men were once again outside on the deck, their voices blending into the sound of the waters. Abel had been sulking ever since I gave Jaxon the cotton candy. He didn’t say much, but I knew that look.
I had to tell him I loved him three times just to make him smile again.
The memory made me chuckle softly, and I rested my hand against my stomach. But when I looked up, my smile faltered: Arden’s expression had turned distant, her eyes trained somewhere past me.
“What?” I asked.
She snapped out of whatever memory she’d drifted into. “Well,” she said slowly, “Jaxon does like things like that.”
“Like what?” I asked, curious.
“Gestures,” she said.
Tessa, who had been swirling the ice in her glass absentmindedly, pursed her lips. “I forgot you two were… together before all of this.”
Arden chuckled softly. “I don’t want to reminisce about it either,” she admitted, her gaze lowering. “But Jaxon wasn’t always a bad
man.”
“He was just given everything he wanted,” Arden continued. “Specifically, his parents gave him all the things he thought he wanted.”
Tessa frowned slightly. “And that’s bad?” she asked.
Arden sighed, leaning back against the cushioned seat. “It is when you never learn to earn anything. His parents praise the ground he walks on. They’ve always treated him like the second coming of greatness.”
“Again,” Tessa cleared her throat, “is that bad?”
“Well,” Arden went on, “he is the most eligible one to become a True Alpha. The Trevanes are a big family, right? Jaxon is their prized possession, and in such, he was given everything…” Her gaze drifted toward the open sea. “But nothing at the same time.”
I lowered my gaze. “Because he is nothing without the title,” I said quietly, “but everything with.”

Arden looked up at me. “Yes,” she said. “Exactly.”
“But,” Arden added after a long pause, “I don’t feel bad for him.”
I glanced at her, waiting.
“He chose what to do with his path after all,” she finished. “We all did.”
There was no bitterness in her voice–just quiet resolve, like someone who had already made peace with a painful chapter of her
life.
Tessa nodded, setting her glass down. “Some people learn. Others don’t.”
“Are you still sulking?” I asked, tilting my head as I looked up at Abel. He was behind me, carefully drying my hair with the towel, and even though he didn’t say anything at first, I caught the tiny pout tugging at his lips in the mirror’s reflection. It made me smile.
“I wouldn’t be drying your hair if I were,” he murmured.
I sighed lightly. “Mhm,” I said, pretending to believe him.
He ignored my teasing, the towel moving in slow, gentle circles against my scalp, his fingers occasionally brushing through my damp strands. I noticed then how his own hair was wet. We’d taken a shower together earlier, and… well, let’s just say we hadn’t only showered. My cheeks warmed at the thought.
It hadn’t been an exhausting day, but it was long. My body was starting to feel the weight of it now.
“Want to sleep?” he whispered, leaning in to press a soft kiss against my lips.
I smiled, eyes half–closed. “In a bit.”
I grabbed the towel from his hand, turning toward him. His hair was dripping again, and I shook my head with a playful frown. “You’re wet, too,” I muttered, beginning to dry his hair.
He chuckled quietly, leaning down slightly to let me reach better. “You don’t have to.”
“Shh.” I patted his head, mimicking how he always treated me. “Fair’s fair.”
A few minutes later, we finally slipped into bed. The sheets were soft and warm. I snuggled closer to him, my head on his chest, his arm draped protectively around me. I could hear his heartbeat.
“Goodnight, Luna,” he whispered, his breath brushing my hair.
“Night, night,” I murmured,
I felt his lips press against the top of my head, and then, slowly, everything faded. My body relaxed, and for the first time in a while, I felt completely free from nausea,
Until I heard it again.
You’re not pure.
Shadows slithered in the corners of my mind, the whisper growing louder, closer–you’re not pure, not pure, not pure.

I gasped and snapped my eyes open.
The room was dim, the faint glow of the clock blinking 2:03 AM. My heart was pounding against my ribs.
The bed beside me was empty.
I frowned. “Abel?” I called softly. The sheets were already cold, so it must have been long since he left.

Then, suddenly, a wave of nausea hit me hard. My throat tightened, and I barely made it to the bathroom before I fell to my knees.
