Chapter 334 Dress Fitting
LUNA
:
After that night, Abel had distanced himself even more.
The cold man I thought I was used to somehow managed to become even colder.

He didn’t look at me the same. He didn’t even see me, I think. He came home, set his keys down, ate alone, and disappeared into his room before I could even open my mouth to say hello.
It felt like I was living in a cage made of silence.
He’d told me not to open the door to anyone, ever. “There are people who might come looking for you,” he said once. “Don’t open it. No matter who it is.
I had nodded, not really believing it at the time. I mean, who would come all the way here?
However, I was quickly proven wrong this early morning when there was a loud, violent bang against the door.
I froze where I was, a knife still in my hand from slicing apples.
The second bang was louder.
My breath caught as I glanced toward the front door. Someone was trying to knock it down.
“Abel?” I whispered instinctively.
The knocks turned into thuds. Whoever it was, they were strong. Each hit rattled the hinges and sent small vibrations through the floor.
I did the first thing that came to mind. I hid behind the couch, still with the knife in my hands.
Okay. Okay, Breathe.
I peeked up just slightly. The wood of the door was thick and reinforced with iron latches. As humble as this house was, it was built like a fortress.
The thudding stopped suddenly.
I waited. The silence that followed was even worse.

Then, I heard heavy footsteps moving along the porch.
I swallowed, inching closer to the window.
ØD,
Just one small peek wouldn’t hurt, right? I slightly lifted my head and looked out of the window.

The figure outside came into view, and my stomach dropped. It was a man. Tall, broad, with a shaved head that gleamed under the sunlight. His build was massive, probably even bigger than Abel’s.
He paused right in front of the door, scanning the area.
I ducked immediately, my breath catching in my throat.
Don’t see me. Please don’t see me.
I waited for what felt like eternity. Then, his footsteps started again, this time moving away.
I exhaled shakily and pressed a hand to my chest.
Alright, Abel wasn’t lying. There were people out there.
However, just as I was about to breathe in relief, another knock came. It was lighter this time, but I wasn’t taking any chances.
I didn’t move an inch, but the voice that came right after made me sigh in relief.
“Luna! I’ve come to fetch you! Come out!”
I bit my lip as I crept toward the door.
“… Arden?” I whispered through the woods.
“Who else?” came the laughing reply. “Open up already before I break your Alpha’s house down.”
My hand trembled as I undid the latch. The door creaked open just enough to reveal her,
“There you are, pretty,” she said, reaching out to pinch my cheek lightly.
“Arden!” I gasped. “You nearly gave me a heart attack!”
She just shrugged. “You’re too easy to scare. Look at you! You’re as pale as a ghost. You haven’t seen the sun in ages, have you?”

“Well, I wasn’t allowed to open the door,” I retorted.

“Rules, rules,” she said with a dramatic wave of her hand. “Come on. You need sunlight. Oh, and a new dress.”
“Wait, what?” I said, following her out onto the porch.
“To the boutique,” she said.
“Boutique?”
“Yes. We’re making you a dress.”
I tilted my head. “For what?”
Arden turned to me, her smile widening. “For the wedding, of course.”
“The what?”
“The wedding!” she said, bouncing in place. “Tessa’s and Rowan’s. You’re invited, Luna.”

She drove fast, wind rustling my hair through the half–opened window, the forest blurring past us. I realized that Arden’s driving had been on the reckless side, but somehow, I found it comforting.
“You came all the way here just to fetch me?” I asked, smiling faintly.
She grinned. “Of course I did. Tessa is too stressed for her own good. She needs a new dress because the original one doesn’t fit her anymore. She thought she wouldn’t need to, but her pregnancy belly is being a nuisance.”
I couldn’t help but gasp. So, she was also pregnant all along? No wonder Rowan was being so careful with her. Their love story felt like it was out of a fairytale.
“Did Abel tell you to come get me?” I asked.
At that, she bit her lip. “Let’s just say… he’s there too.”
I tilted my head. “Oh, then he did send you.”
“Don’t stress yourself over it.” She smiled. “Don’t worry, Luna. We have an appointment. We’re the only ones there. Tessa’s and Rowan’s wedding is exclusive–only close friends. So no crowds, no strangers.”

After a moment, I said quietly, “I’ve never been to a wedding.”
She turned to me, shocked. “Really?”
I nodded.

Her reaction was dramatic. Her foot jerked on the brake, and we nearly lurched forward.
“Careful!” I exclaimed, clutching the dashboard.
She laughed. “Sorry, I just–how could you never have gone to one?”
I smiled faintly, looking out the window. “My parents got married before I was born,” I said softly.
That much was true. On the day of Queenie’s and my dad’s wedding, I coincidentally got food poisoned, too. So, I’ve never witnessed a wedding in my entire life.
She exhaled through her nose. “This is no good,” she said suddenly.
“Huh?” I asked, turning to her.
“We have to give you a good dress. A great one!”
I waved my hands quickly. “Oh, no need—”
“Nope,” she said firmly, cutting me off with a grin. “No arguments.”
I sighed, but couldn’t help smiling a little.
When we finally pulled up in front of the boutique, I was speechless. The building wasn’t huge, but it was elegant. The scent of roses and fabric dye hit me the moment we walked in.
Cade stood near the mirror, adjusting his sleeve cuffs. Abel was beside him, dressed in black. Another man I didn’t recognize was snacking at the table.
And somewhere behind a thick velvet curtain, I heard Tessa’s unmistakable voice. “I swear this dress is conspiring against my ribs!”
Just then, Abel turned.
He froze when he saw me, those sharp eyes widening just a little before hardening again. I stopped, every thought leaving my mind.
“What are you doing here?” he asked.
