I woke up feeling more invigorated than I realized. My limbs felt lighter somehow. For the first time in what felt like forever, I wasn’t waking up to the sound of Queenie’s and Princess‘ orders. Instead, it was calm. Moreover, the scent of breakfast food instantly made my stomach grumble.
I blinked the sleep from my eyes and turned my head. The cabin was filled with golden light that slanted through the thin curtains. I got out of bed and walked softly out of the room.
The moment I opened the door, I was greeted with the sight of Abel.
He stood in the small kitchen, shirtless, his back to me. He was cooking breakfast, and it appeared he was doing it effortlessly. Was there anything this man wasn’t good at?
My cheeks flushed before I even realized why. My dream from last night came rushing back. It was about the night we first met. It had been just a dream, of course. I repeated that to myself, because the alternative was… well, too much to process.
His back was tainted with old scars, pale against his sun–kissed skin. I didn’t know what came over me, but I wanted to reach out and touch them.
Before I knew it, I had taken a quiet step forward–only for the floorboard beneath me to creak.
Abel froze. Then, slowly, he turned.
The sunlight caught his face first, and then his chest. The man really had no right to look like that in the morning. My mouth went dry.
“You’re awake?”
I opened my mouth to reply, but words refused to form. My gaze betrayed me and trailed downward before I could stop it.
A small smirk appeared on his lips. “You like what you’re seeing?”
My eyes widened. “No! I don’t.”
“You were staring,” he said, turning back to his pan.
“I wasn’t!” I insisted. “You just–do you always stand around half–naked like that?”

He chuckled. “Do I have any reason not to?”

“Fair question,” I muttered under my breath, crossing my arms and clicking my tongue.
It wasn’t fair, honestly.
“I’m surrounded by arrogance,” I said.
He just hummed in reply.
I huffed and turned toward the door, desperate for some fresh air.
The cool morning breeze hit me the moment I stepped outside.
But then-
“Ah!”
A small scream escaped my lips before I could stop it.
Sitting on the porch of the house across from ours was a man I hadn’t seen before. He was slouched in a chair, one leg crossed lazily over the other, a massive cup of coffee in his hand. His hair was dark and disheveled, his under–eyes shadowed as though he hadn’t slept in a · week.
He turned to me, his brows furrowed deeply.
“Who are you?” he asked.
The moment the small scream left my lips, I heard footsteps rush up behind me. Then, a strong arm wrapped firmly around my waist, pulling me back against a familiar, solid chest.
My pulse was still racing when I turned slightly, looking up at him in disbelief.
“There was a person living here all along?” I whispered, my voice trembling slightly. “The lights were all closed last night.”
Abel didn’t answer as he turned to the unfamiliar man. Then, his grip on me loosened.
“Owen?” Abel muttered. “You’re back?”
The man–Owen–raised his brow, his gaze darting between the two of us. Then he sighed, setting his coffee down on the porch railing. “Yeah, I came back at lunch yesterday. I had a very long work trip.”

I looked back and forth between the two of them. So, it seemed they knew each other.
Owen’s eyes settled with me. “Now I come back and see you, Abel, with someone.”
Abel pursed his lips.

Owen shook his head dramatically, leaning back in his chair. “What’s with all you True Alphas and your luck? You all bag the prettiest ones.”
My cheeks flamed. Bag? Excuse me?
He wasn’t done. “Not only that, but you wouldn’t let me sleep! You’re just like Rowan and Tessa.”
Rowan and Tessa. I’ve heard their names plenty of times since I came here, but I still didn’t know who they were.
Owen gestured vaguely toward our cabin with his coffee cup. “Your walls are so freaking thin, I could hear your moans yesterday. Rowan is a menace for building the house like that.”
What?
My mouth fell open. I looked up at Abel in horror. “Moans?” I whispered.
But Abel didn’t look half as flustered as I felt. If anything, he looked… annoyed. “Cover your ears then,” he said flatly.
“Cover my ears?” Owen looked offended. “You mean, control yourselves!”
I could feel the heat rushing to my face. Control ourselves? What was he even talking about?
Owen just sighed, standing up and grabbing his coffee once more. “Anyway, I’m sleeping now. Don’t have sex again.”
My jaw practically hit the floor.
He started to go back inside his house, but then paused, turned back with a sheepish smile, and said, “Nice meeting you, by the way. You seem lovely.”
And with that, the door shut behind him.
I stood frozen in the quiet morning, my face burning so hot I was sure it was glowing red. Sex? What did he mean by that?
My heart was pounding so loudly that for a moment, I thought I might’ve misheard.

I turned dowly toward Abel, who we ring bedde me with the same maddeningly calm represim as before
“Did something happen yesterday?” I asked softly.
Abel didn’t look at me right away. He just exhaled a slow breath, then finally met my gaze. “Ask yourself that.”
1 frowned, completely thrown off. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
For he didn’t answer. He brushed past me instead, heading back inside the cabin like the conversation was already over.
Ask yourself that.
I replayed the night before in my head, the fragments I could remember.
My dream.
My stomach dropped.
Was it really a dream?
My hands trembled slightly as I pressed them to my face. No. No way. I would’ve known if something happened. I would’ve felt it. Right?
However, the harder I tried to remember, the more vivid it became. He didn’t do anything to me, but I did something to him. How could I not control myself last night?
Crap, I was so embarrassed I could die.
