Adrian was completely unfazed. “If she becomes useless, then I’ll give up on her. It’s not like she’s the only one in the world. It’ll just take a bit more time. But if I don’t grant this divorce, you’ll never be able to marry her.”
Neither of them would back down. It felt as if invisible swords were clashing in the air.
The staff member watched, terrified. They weren’t going to have a bloodbath in here, were they?
Evelyn and the others, however, were enjoying the show. She whispered to Amanda, “If Julian hadn’t gotten hurt first, he would have definitely smashed Adrian’s face in.”
“That handsome face of his is so annoying.”
Amanda nodded in agreement.
Miles and Edmund exchanged a look but didn’t say anything.
“Mr. Blackwell, uh…” The staff member tried to mediate.
Isabel cut him off, looking at Adrian. “Then you can try your luck, Mr. Blackwell. See if you can find another perfect match like Selena in this world.”
She tapped Julian’s watch. “There’s still some time before midnight. If you’ve made up your mind, Mr. Blackwell, just have the staff issue the divorce certificate now.”
Seeing them standing so close was grating on Adrian's nerves. The simple act of her touching his watch felt intimate. Something was rampaging inside his chest, leaving him choked with frustration.
“You want to get your way? In your dreams,” he said, then turned and left, making it clear with his actions that he intended to enforce the one-month cooling-off period.
Isabel gritted her teeth, wishing she could bash his head in. She even asked the staff member, “If the husband dies, can the cooling-off period be bypassed?”
The staff member was horrified. “What are you planning to do? Please, let’s talk this through. The cooling-off period is meant to give couples time to think calmly about whether they really want to divorce. You mustn’t do anything rash.”
Could anyone really not want to stay married to Adrian?
Women all over Westbridge, even from other states and countries, wanted to marry him. If you actually managed to become his wife, you could overlook a lot of issues—as long as it wasn't domestic abuse or crime—because he had money.
