Charles put down his cup and interrupted her. “It’s just as my dad said. Aunt Luna, just ask me what you want directly. I’m not some monster.”
“Fine, since you’ve voiced this out, I’ll seem like a hypocrite if I don’t ask you this face to face. I’ll be direct and say whatever’s on my mind.” Luna sat down, the expression on her face much calmer than before.
Charles took off his coat and passed it to the servant. He gestured to Luna to speak.
“Your grandpa suddenly approached us today to ask for the shares of Harris Corporation. He said to put together 25 percent from our shares to give to you. Is this true or false?” Luna asked in a grim voice.
Charles nodded.
Slam!
Luna slammed her palm on the table and stood up, saying sternly, “Charles, who do you think helped you to become president? Have you forgotten so soon? You’re forcing us to stand on Justin’s side…”
A series of rings from a phone was suddenly heard before she could finish her words.
“The Little Seductress is calling… The Little Seductress is calling… If I don’t pick up, the Little Seductress will be mad!”
It was Alan’s.
Luna’s face turned dark. Just as Alan was about to pick up the call, she suddenly snatched the phone from his hands and threw it hard onto the ground, even stepping on it a few times. “A vixen’s child who only knows to get a vixen of his own. What a joke!”
“Luna, aren’t you being too mean about this?” Alan stared at the phone with the cracked screen on the ground as his face turned grim.
Oscar stepped in to calm the situation. After making sure they would not get into a fight, he gave a laugh and asked, “Charles, you can’t be without a conscience. We’ve angered the old man previously in order to help you, and now you’re turning against us by ripping us off. That’s not right!”
“Did you anger him to help me, or did you anger him to protect your own benefits? I believe you know very well what the answer is, Uncle Oscar.” Charles smiled slightly.
The smile froze on Oscar’s face. He sighed. “If you want to make things so clear, then there’s nothing I can do about it. No matter what our reasons were, it’s a fact that we helped you.”
Charles did not reply. All he did was pick up the teapot and poured himself another cup of tea before sipping it.
“Charles, just as your Aunt Luna said, by doing this, you’re forcing us to stand on Justin’s side! Think about this, if…”
Charles put down his cup and interrupted Oscar. “I wasn’t even done speaking. What are you so anxious about, Uncle Oscar and Aunt Luna?”
“You’ve admitted that you’re asking for 25 percent of the shares. What difference does it make if you’re done speaking or not?” If it was not for Charles’ capability of making profits, she would never work with him!
This kid was just too crafty!
One would probably fall into his trap before even realizing it!
“Aunt Luna, calm down first and we’ll talk.” Charles poured a cup of tea and handed it to Luna.
She stared at him with a frown but ultimately took the cup from his hands. She drank it in a gulp and slammed the cup onto the table.
“The accounts may state that it was missing a few billion, but it does not mean that only a few billion was missing. I believe I don’t need to explain in detail about this, right?” Charles said with a hint.
It was quite easy for the company accounts to be manipulated.
It was difficult for everyone to digest such huge news in such a short time.
There was a complicated look on Luna’s face. “I’ve checked the shares under your grandpa’s name. He doesn’t own that many shares.”
“Aunt Luna, do you think grandpa will leave evidence of his doing and allow any of us to see through his schemes so easily? The shares are all in the hands of individual stock investors, and these are investors who have no direct relationship with one another,” said Charles.
Luna was shocked once more. She secretly cursed the old man, calling him an old fox while blurting out a question at the same time, “How do you know?”
“I believe I don’t need to explain that to you, Aunt Luna.” Charles narrowed his eyes. They looked slightly cold.
Luna knew she had overstepped and shook her head. She was still unable to calm the nerves within her.
Everyone else remained silent, but they had complicated looks on their faces.
The one who had the most mixed feelings was Alan. Charles was his son, and yet, he knew nothing about what his son was doing.
When did it happen? When did his son, who used to wrap himself around Alan’s legs and begging to be brought to the theme park, become so powerful?
