My disheveled appearance clearly startled Ferris for a moment. His expression immediately changed, and without saying anything, he brought me back to our residence.
Back inside, he draped a clean piece of clothing over me, his voice calm but hiding unease: “What do you want to ask?”
I looked down at the photo still hidden in my pocket, instinctively gripping it tighter with my fingers. I raised my head, staring into his eyes, and asked word by word: “Do you have a twin brother?”
Upon hearing the word “brother,” Ferris’s expression suddenly turned cold.
He released his grip on my arm, his voice low: “Yes.”
I stared at him, feeling inexplicably panicked: “Then why have I never heard of him? Where is he now?”
Ferris’s lips pressed into a thin line, his eyes filled with coldness, anger undisguised: “You suddenly ran to the banquet to find me just to ask this?”
I didn’t back down, continuing to look directly at him, waiting for his answer.
But he sneered, his eyes covered with frost, his voice like a blade: “This is my family matter. You don’t need to know,”
Family matter…
Hearing him say those words, my heart felt like it had been struck hard by a blunt instrument.
I instantly understood that I wouldn’t get anything from him.
Fortunately, I hadn’t taken out the photo. I quietly tucked it back into my clothes pocket, my tone calm: “I understand. I won’t ask again.”
Ferris’s gaze slightly darkened, as if investigating me: “Why did you suddenly ask about him?”
I didn’t respond, my heart beating rapidly in my chest.
He continued staring at me: “Did someone tell you something?”
Ilied, my voice so quiet it was almost inaudible: “I… accidentally overheard when you were talking to Victoria before, and learned you had a brother. Just now while walking outside, I happened to hear someone mention it again, so I… wanted to confirm.”
This lie was clumsy–I could hear it myself.
